The list of caddie changes has been well documented, including at LWOS:<\/span><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li><span style=\"font-weight: 400\"><a href=\"https:\/\/lastwordonsports.com\/2025\/03\/31\/rory-mcilroy-told-to-change-caddies\/\" target=\"_self\">Rory McIlroy continues to defend his old friend Henry Diamond<\/a><\/span><\/li>\n<li><span style=\"font-weight: 400\"><a href=\"https:\/\/lastwordonsports.com\/2025\/03\/19\/matt-fitzpatrick-billy-foster-split\/\" target=\"_self\">Matt FitzPatrick and Billy Foster split<\/a><\/span><\/li>\n<li><a href=\"https:\/\/lastwordonsports.com\/2025\/04\/09\/justin-thomas-caddie-masters-tournament\/\" target=\"_self\">Justin Thomas changed caddies ahead of The Masters<\/a><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">And now Jordan Spieth is being told that caddie Michael Greller is to blame for his losses.\u00a0 However, just like with McIlroy, Spieth disagrees and says that his performance is related to a different issue that required medical intervention.<\/span><\/p>\n<h2><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">The Genesis of the Criticism<\/span><\/h2>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">This criticism started when fans noticed that Jordan Spieth was having trouble reading the wind direction and speed during the 2025 Valero Texas Open.\u00a0 Spieth misjudged the wind at hole 12, which landed him a bogey.\u00a0 One fan said in a deleted tweet:<\/span><\/p>\n<p><em><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">\u201cI\u2019ve never seen a player so bad at &#8216;guessing&#8217; the wind. Just an embarrassment to the sport of golf right now.\u201d<\/span><\/em><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">Fans have pointed out that Michael Greller should have caught this and stepped in to correct the issue.\u00a0 The criticism goes beyond a misread wind\u2014Spieth has had some struggles over the past couple of years.\u00a0\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<h2><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">What Has Jordan Spieth Said About This?<\/span><\/h2>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">In short, Spieth thinks there is only one thing to blame for his performance.\u00a0 He blames his own body for his issues, specifically, he blames his wrist.\u00a0 In 2023, Spieth was diagnosed with ulnar nerve damage.\u00a0 He has since had corrective surgery last August, but some symptoms remain.\u00a0 <a  href=\"https:\/\/golfweek.usatoday.com\/story\/sports\/golf\/pga\/2025\/04\/04\/jordan-spieth-wrist-valero-texas-open\/82888523007\/\" target=\"_blank\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Spieth described his symptoms to Golfweek<\/a>:<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400\"><em>\u201cI wake up in the morning, and my wrists do not feel the same, comparably,\u201d<\/em> he began before adding, <em>\u201cMy left wrist, just to close my fingers, it feels like it\u2019s twice the size, but after 10, 15 minutes, it\u2019s fine. It doesn\u2019t hurt, it\u2019s not sore; it just is so tight every morning after sleeping. So I think I\u2019m a little surprised that that\u2019s staying that way.\u201d<\/em><\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">These symptoms make things difficult; having a stiff hand while in a sport that requires athletes to use their hands is a tall order.\u00a0 Yet, Spieth is doing pretty well for himself this season.<\/span><\/p>\n<h2><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">Spieth Performance This Season<\/span><\/h2>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">The PGA Tour\u2019s 2025 season was seen as Jordan Spieth\u2019s comeback time.\u00a0 So far, he has done pretty well for himself.\u00a0 Sure, he missed the cut for the Genesis Invitational, but he made T4 for the Phoenix Open and T9 for the Cognizant Classic.\u00a0 At the Valero Texas Open, the event that sparked this fan backlash, he still made T12.\u00a0 Sure, he got a T69 and 59th but this is still not even a year after his surgery.\u00a0 Not bad for a man with a bad wrist.<\/span><\/p>\n<h2><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">The Year of Comebacks<\/span><\/h2>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">Jordan Spieth is not alone here.\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/lastwordonsports.com\/2025\/04\/04\/gary-woodland-is-making-a-comeback-after-medical-hardship\/\" target=\"_self\"> Gary Woodland is currently bouncing back<\/a> after his brain surgery, and Scottie Scheffler is going through something similar after a cooking accident.\u00a0 It also took some time for Woodland to start his comeback.\u00a0 Spieth still having symptoms even after all these months is expected.\u00a0 He will not be looking at his caddie as the cause of his problems, as he sees all the problems are related to his wrist.<\/span><\/p>\n<p>Main Photo Credit:\u00a0 \u00a9 Daniel Dunn-Imagn Images<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>This season has seen much criticism for PGA golfers\u2019 caddies.
