Bernhard Langer is a bit of a legend in the PGA.\u00a0 Since 1976, he has competed in 361 events and made the cut in 360.\u00a0 He has 47 PGA wins under his belt since he joined in 2007 and 61 international wins.\u00a0 He also made the top 10 in 232 events.\u00a0 Needless to say, he has quite a standing in the sport.\u00a0 However, in the leadup to the 2025 Masters<\/a>, he is sharing that he is having some mobility issues, and it will most likely affect his performance.<\/p>\n

Bernhard Langer Going Into The Masters<\/h2>\n

To make one thing clear, he absolutely plans on playing in the Masters Tournament, rain or shine.\u00a0 He also doesn\u2019t expect to get a win this time around.\u00a0 Despite still getting wins as recently as last year, he is very much aware of his age and the limitations it gives him.\u00a0 In an interview with the Mirror he said<\/a>:<\/p>\n

“So I’m not going in there with a mindset of winning anymore, that train has passed.\u00a0 But trying to still perform and show some good shots and hopefully be there on the weekend.\u00a0 To get back to where I was and I always thought I would come back, it was just a matter of when and how,”<\/em> he continued, adding: “So it was a long and tough process. It still is. I’m not 100 percent and maybe I never will be, but walking is still difficult.\u201d<\/em><\/p>\n

Langer’s Self Imposed Rules<\/h2>\n

In the same interview, Langer explained that his difficulties aren\u2019t as bad as they could be.\u00a0 It\u2019s more that he gets more easily fatigued and that he\u2019s a bit more reliant on the golf cart to get around 18 holes.\u00a0 This doesn\u2019t mean that he isn\u2019t thinking about retirement.\u00a0 He has three points that he wants to meet to keep his career going.<\/p>\n

“I always said the three things that need to be in place, first of all, I’ve got to be healthy to swing the club the way I want to swing it. Secondly, I’ve got to enjoy the game and have a desire, and certainly I need to be in contention or playing at a level where I’m not finishing in the bottom third of the field every week.\u201d<\/em> He goes on to say, \u201c I’ve always said, if those three things are still there, if I have the desire, the health and the success, I probably will continue to play the Champions Tour. When one or two of these things go away, then it’s probably time to quit playing.\u201d<\/em><\/p>\n

It makes sense why he would set these rules for himself.\u00a0 Langer is surrounded by players who power through their health problems.\u00a0 Jason Day famously suffers from vertigo and presses on<\/a>, and Langer is likely playing with gritted teeth.<\/p>\n

On To The Masters<\/h2>\n

Bernhard Langer is far from the first player to float the idea of retirement this year.\u00a0 Rory McIlroy set himself a date where he wants to slow down.\u00a0 Fred Couples is theorized to be one of the next players to retire<\/a>.\u00a0 Langer however is planning on riding out his career until his body finally gives out.\u00a0 He looks forward to playing in the Masters again and is keen to have a good time while competing.<\/p>\n
