{"id":433865,"date":"2025-03-26T09:33:38","date_gmt":"2025-03-26T13:33:38","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/lastwordonsports.com\/?p=433865"},"modified":"2025-04-23T16:39:55","modified_gmt":"2025-04-23T16:39:55","slug":"scottie-scheffler-rivalry-jon-rahm","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/lastwordonsports.com\/golf\/scottie-scheffler-rivalry-jon-rahm\/","title":{"rendered":"Scottie Scheffler Reminisces on Growing Rivalry With Jon Rahm"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">As talks with the<a href=\"https:\/\/lastwordonsports.com\/2025\/02\/25\/is-a-pga-and-liv-merger-actually-good-for-the-game\/\" target=\"_self\"> PGA-LIV merger<\/a> continue, more players are looking forward to a <a href=\"https:\/\/lastwordonsports.com\/2025\/03\/05\/pga-liv-merger\/\" target=\"_self\">reunion with each other<\/a>.\u00a0 PGA Tour player Scottie Scheffler has admitted that there is one player that he misses playing against.\u00a0 A fellow Masters champion and a friendly rival during the Ryder Cup.\u00a0 Jon Rahm, a golfer from Spain who played on the PGA and is now on LIV Golf.<\/span><\/p>\n<h2><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">Scheffler and Rahm\u2019s History<\/span><\/h2>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">Sheffler and Rahm have played against each other a number of times throughout their PGA careers.\u00a0 They are both known for their Masters victories and Rahm is known as a former world no. 1.\u00a0 A title he lost after joining LIV Golf, and that Scheffler has since picked up.\u00a0 Scheffler even received his green jacket from Rahm in 2023.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">Scottie Scheffler was asked in a <a  href=\"https:\/\/golf.com\/news\/scottie-scheffler-liv-golf-pga-tour-deal\/\" target=\"_blank\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">pre-masters call with reporters<\/a> if he missed playing against Rahm and he responded unambiguously.\u00a0<\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">\u201cYeah, I definitely do,\u201d said Scheffler. \u201cOne of the great joyous of my career is going up against Jon. He\u2019s a tremendous player, tremendous talent.\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">Like with most other players who jumped ship in favor of LIV, Scheffler was not expecting the change.\u00a0<\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">\u201cI was definitely surprised to see him leave last year and I for sure miss playing against him. We had some great battles over the years.\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">Scheffler has a great amount of respect for Jon Rahm despite him leaving for LIV.\u00a0 Competition wise he sees Rahm as an equal in match.\u00a0<\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">\u201cWe had some great battles in the Ryder Cup. I think we\u2019ve halved most of our matches in the Ryder Cup, Jon and I have. I think we might be dead even, I\u2019m not sure exactly, but I feel like we\u2019ve played five or six times.\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">Rahm&#8217;s similar skill level to Scheffler&#8217;s makes for an interesting match, as the two are often neck and neck. Scheffler sees Rahm as a great challenge in any match they are both in and seems to have a lot of fun during those matches.\u00a0<\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">\u201cMaybe we\u2019ve played five times and halved three of them, and I\u2019ve won one and he\u2019s won one. We\u2019ve played a lot in the last two Ryder Cups, and he\u2019s a great guy to compete against.\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">Scheffler may miss playing against Rahm on the PGA Tour, but he still has plenty of potential friendly rivals.\u00a0 He still thinks of those players as being highly skilled. <\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">He goes on to say how much he wishes the players who left stayed but he acknowledges that they made their decisions.\u00a0 This is the man who says that LIV Golf \u201c<a href=\"https:\/\/lastwordonsports.com\/2025\/03\/20\/scottie-scheffler-fires-shots-at-liv-golf-they-split-the-game\/\" target=\"_self\">split the game<\/a>.\u201d\u00a0 He has stated that he believes that the players who jumped did so for financial reasons.\u00a0 It is no secret that LIV Golf paid out massive contracts for its golfers.\u00a0 A move that has been <a href=\"https:\/\/lastwordonsports.com\/2025\/02\/19\/liv-golf-financial-report\/\" target=\"_self\">one reason the league struggles to make a profit.<\/a><\/span><\/p>\n<h2><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">Scheffler Remaining Optimistic<\/span><\/h2>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">Scottie Scheffler and Jon Rahm had a great rivalry while it lasted, and unless the PGA-LIV merger goes through, they won\u2019t be able to play together like they used to.\u00a0 For now though despite losing players, Scheffler is content with sticking by PGA.\u00a0 He believes in this long-standing league, and won\u2019t let this hiccup get in the way of him enjoying the sport.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">\u201cI still think the PGA Tour has by far the best players in the world.
