In 2021, LIV Golf stalwart Dustin Johnson was on top of the golf world.\u00a0 He won the Masters Tournament the previous year, the US Open in 2016, and was number one on the world stage.\u00a0 He even had a very healthy sponsorship from TaylorMade.\u00a0 In the summer of 2022, however, Johnson left the PGA<\/a> Tour in favor of LIV Golf.\u00a0 This has had the repercussions of him losing his position in global rankings, as well as a suspension from PGA events.\u00a0 Eventually Johnson even lost the TaylorMade sponsorship<\/a>, yet he doesn\u2019t seem too bothered about it.\u00a0 The fans, however, are a different story.\u00a0 Their opinions on Johnson\u2019s career are not exactly optimistic, they believe that his career is coming to an end.<\/span><\/p>\n

Why Are Golf Fans So Down On Johnson\u2019s Career?<\/span><\/h2>\n

Dustin Johnson has struggled in games over the past year.\u00a0 In fact, he hasn\u2019t been in the top ten since LIV\u2019s 2024 Singapore event.\u00a0 He missed the cut for the US Open and the Masters, during LIV\u2019s Hong Kong event he was off his game.\u00a0 Fans are looking at these events and wondering if Johnson\u2019s best days are behind him, and if it might be time for him to hang up his clubs.<\/span><\/p>\n

\u201cHe\u2019s totally fallen off,\u201d<\/em> one fan said.\u00a0 \u201cBut I still expect him to make big runs at key times.\u00a0 It does suck to see him playing this poorly though\u201d<\/em><\/span><\/p>\n

Another fan commented on Johnson:\u00a0 \u201cHe genuinely doesn\u2019t care, I think.\u00a0 I mean, obviously, he\u2019s a winner and wants to win, but he\u2019s ready to chill for the rest of his life, I think.\u201d<\/em><\/span><\/p>\n

Other fans are speculating if Johnson lost his drive after getting paid for his LIV Golf contract.\u00a0 His contract with LIV Golf has been valued at $200 million.\u00a0 After this deal, he let multiple sponsorships expire and doesn\u2019t seem phased by it at all.\u00a0\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

\u201cNothing to play for.\u00a0 Cash in hand already.\u00a0 Real events with no pressure.\u201d<\/em>\u00a0 One fan wrote<\/span><\/p>\n

Another wrote:\u00a0 \u201cYes. He doesn\u2019t care about golf.\u00a0 He got his bag!\u201d<\/em><\/span><\/p>\n

It’s not just the fans.\u00a0 Even other players are unsure if he should continue.\u00a0 During an interview with the Fore Play Podcast<\/a>, Kevin Kisner said:<\/p>\n

“…I don\u2019t even know if DJ (Dustin Johnson) is a world-class player any more. As little as I see his name. I just don\u2019t think that is what we are missing.”<\/p>\n

Is It Time For Dustin Johnson To Make a Change?<\/span><\/h2>\n

It\u2019s not unusual for a professional athlete to have bad days as they age.\u00a0 Tiger Woods has had some bad years before making a comeback during the 2019 Masters<\/a>.\u00a0 Phil Mickelson was also struggling until the 2021 PGA Championship when he became the oldest to win.\u00a0 Who’s to s<\/span>ay that Johnson cannot do the same?<\/span><\/p>\n

Johnson himself is letting all this slide off him.\u00a0 When asked about the possibility to rejoin PGA after the merger, Johnson dismissed the possibility of himself going on, but thinks the merger is good for golf.\u00a0 In the same interview where he was asked about the PGA-LIV merger<\/a>, he gave this answer to the PGA question.<\/span><\/p>\n

\u201cI\u2019m perfectly happy where I am, and I certainly don\u2019t intend to play more golf than I currently do, that\u2019s for sure.\u201d<\/span><\/em><\/p>\n

With everything he is hinting at or saying, it seems that Dustin Johnson is ready to pack his clubs when his contract is up.\u00a0 Granted, this is speculation, but one can\u2019t help but to think this with the way he is approaching his golf career.<\/span><\/p>\n
