{"id":433444,"date":"2025-03-02T08:36:08","date_gmt":"2025-03-02T13:36:08","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/lastwordonsports.com\/?p=433444"},"modified":"2025-04-23T16:39:18","modified_gmt":"2025-04-23T16:39:18","slug":"luke-clanton-pga-tour-card","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/lastwordonsports.com\/golf\/luke-clanton-pga-tour-card\/","title":{"rendered":"PGA Tour U Player Luke Clanton Earns Major Reward"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">During the <a href=\"https:\/\/lastwordonsports.com\/2025\/02\/28\/jake-knapp-cognizant-classic\/\" target=\"_self\">2025 Cognizant Classic<\/a> there were of course plenty of moments among the professional players to note.\u00a0 One notable moment was when Billy Horshel had to shoo away an alligator with his golf club when it approached some spectators.\u00a0 However, in non-reptilian related news, a new up and comer has started down the path to becoming a professional golfer.\u00a0 During the Classic, Luke Clanton managed to earn his <a  href=\"https:\/\/www.pgatour.com\/video\/competition\/6369459756112\/luke-clanton-makes-cut-to-earn-tour-card\" target=\"_blank\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">PGA Tour card<\/a> at the age of 21, and is already capturing the hearts of fans.<\/span><\/p>\n<h3><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">Who Is Luke Clanton?<\/span><\/h3>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">Luke Clanton is a Florida native who&#8217;s currently enrolled in Florida State University.\u00a0 He is currently making his rounds thanks in part to the PGA Tour U Accelerated program.\u00a0 A program in the PGA that allows college students a chance to earn their tour cards and play in the big leagues.\u00a0\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">Clanton himself grew up around golf, specifically close to the same course the Cognizant classic is being held in.\u00a0 Raised in Hialeah Clanton and his family would watch the Cognizant Classic whenever it was held.\u00a0 Clanton competed in the Florida High School State Championship and has won three separate times.\u00a0 He has also competed and won in several other amateur events.\u00a0 These include the Arnold Palmer Invitational Junior, the NCAA Morgan Hill Regional, and the Watersound Invitational.\u00a0\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<h3><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">How Did He Earn His Tour Card?<\/span><\/h3>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">Luke Clanton has been trying to get his Tour card since he entered the PGA Tour U program.\u00a0 He is only the second player to earn his card through this program.\u00a0 He\u2019s been racking up the necessary wins and points to secure his place since June of 2024.\u00a0 Between then and November of the same year he managed to rack up 17 points.\u00a0 This is also the fastest anyone has accumulated points in the Tour U program&#8217;s history.\u00a0 He even reached the number one spot for amateur players worldwide.\u00a0 He finally earned the remaining points he needed at the Cognizant Classic.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">\u201cIt\u2019s been awesome,\u201d Clanton, a junior at Florida State, said. \u201cFrom the missed cuts to playing well to everything being out here, it\u2019s amazing. I kind of said it again, I think this is my fourth start out here [of the year], and it feels good to get it done now.
