{"id":420656,"date":"2020-08-09T20:42:22","date_gmt":"2020-08-10T00:42:22","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/lastwordonsports.com\/?p=420656"},"modified":"2025-04-23T16:38:04","modified_gmt":"2025-04-23T16:38:04","slug":"collin-morikawa-wins-102nd-pga-championship","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/lastwordonsports.com\/golf\/collin-morikawa-wins-102nd-pga-championship\/","title":{"rendered":"Collin Morikawa Wins 102nd PGA Championship"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Collin Morikawa is a major champion.<\/p>\n<p>The 23-year-old captures his first major at the 102nd PGA Championship, in just <a href=\"https:\/\/lastwordonsports.com\/2020\/08\/10\/collin-morikawa-pga-championship\/\" target=\"_self\">his second major appearance<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>Going into the final round two back of the lead, Morikawa shot a bogey-free, six-under 64 to win the Wanamaker Trophy.<\/p>\n<h2>Collin Morikawa Wins 102nd PGA Championship<\/h2>\n<p>He is the first since Keegan Bradley (1) to win the PGA Championship in the fewest number of major appearances.<\/p>\n<p>Morikawa joins Tiger Woods, Jack Nicklaus, and Rory McIlroy as the only golfers to win a major championship at 23-years-old.<\/p>\n<p>The youngster started the day with a two-under Front 9 with back-to-back birdies on holes three and four. But it was the back 9 where Morikawa shined, most notably the shots on 14 and 16.<\/p>\n<p>On the 14th hole, after hitting his second shot short of the green, Morikawa chipped in a 54-footer for birdie. Then, on the short par-4 16th, Morikawa&#8217;s tee shot landed six feet from the hole. He made an eagle, where he continues to lead the PGA Tour in that category.<\/p>\n<p>Morikawa led the field in driving accuracy this week, making him the first major champion to do so since 2010.<\/p>\n<p>The PGA Championship is Morikawa&#8217;s third career <a href=\"https:\/\/www.pgatour.com\/\" target=\"_blank\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">PGA Tour<\/a> victory, his second coming this year at the Workday Charity Open, defeating World No. 1 Justin Thomas in a playoff.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>Main Photo: Collin Morikawa wins his first major championship at 23-years-old (Photo by: Sean M.
