{"id":420508,"date":"2020-06-10T13:37:34","date_gmt":"2020-06-10T17:37:34","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/lastwordonsports.com\/?p=420508"},"modified":"2025-04-23T16:37:50","modified_gmt":"2025-04-23T16:37:50","slug":"charles-schwab-challenge-pga-tour","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/lastwordonsports.com\/golf\/charles-schwab-challenge-pga-tour\/","title":{"rendered":"History, Questions, Optimism Surround PGA Tour Return at Colonial"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><span data-preserver-spaces=\"true\">84 years ago, Marvin Leonard brought a golf course to his hometown of Fort Worth, Texas.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span data-preserver-spaces=\"true\">Little did he know that his Colonial Country Club creation would serve as the amphitheater for the PGA Tour\u2019s return in 2020.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span data-preserver-spaces=\"true\">Colonial is synonymous with Fort Worth native Ben Hogan, who won the invitational five times.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span data-preserver-spaces=\"true\">Now, the Charles Schwab Challenge welcomes the<a href=\"https:\/\/lastwordonsports.com\/category\/golf\/\" target=\"_self\"> best golfers<\/a> back to action after a three-month hiatus.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span data-preserver-spaces=\"true\">\u201cI love this place,\u201d\u00a0<\/span><a class=\"_e75a791d-denali-editor-page-rtfLink\" href=\"http:\/\/asaptxt.com\/orgs\/pgatour\/381\/transcripts\/46684.pdf\" target=\"_blank\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\"><span data-preserver-spaces=\"true\">said the 2016 Charles Schwab Challenge winner Jordan Spieth to reporters on Tuesday.<\/span><\/a><span data-preserver-spaces=\"true\">\u00a0\u201cI&#8217;m really glad that we were able to play this tournament this year, given it&#8217;s not in its normal place in May.\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n<blockquote class=\"twitter-tweet\" data-width=\"550\" data-dnt=\"true\">\n<p lang=\"en\" dir=\"ltr\">Jordan Spieth is the top performer at Colonial, and it&#39;s not close. After one round, the tournament shut down, like the rest of the sports world, due to the COVID-19 pandemic.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span data-preserver-spaces=\"true\">March, turned to April, which transitioned into May. For starters, there are no fans. Besides golfers, volunteers, tournament personnel, limited media, and camera crews, the course will be empty. The high fives and fist bumps between players and fans will be nonexistent.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span data-preserver-spaces=\"true\">From a broadcast perspective, the viewers witnessed a pandemic production during TaylorMade\u2019s Driving Relief and The Match 2.0. With CBS having the honours of calling this week\u2019s event, Jim Nantz will be in the 18th TV tower all alone, adhering to social distancing guidelines. CBS golf commentators Nick Faldo, Ian Baker-Finch, and Frank Nobilo will be broadcasting remotely from Golf Channel studios in Florida. Mark Immelman and Dottie Pepper will be walking the course with players, with Amanda Balionis doing post-round interviews from home.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span data-preserver-spaces=\"true\">\u201cIt&#8217;s going to be different,\u201d\u00a0<\/span><a class=\"_e75a791d-denali-editor-page-rtfLink\" href=\"http:\/\/asaptxt.com\/orgs\/pgatour\/381\/transcripts\/46686.pdf\" target=\"_blank\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\"><span data-preserver-spaces=\"true\">said Dustin Johnson to reporters on Wednesday.<\/span><\/a><span data-preserver-spaces=\"true\">\u00a0\u201cThere&#8217;s not going to be as much energy, especially out there on a Sunday if you&#8217;re around the lead coming down the stretch. But you know, it&#8217;s still a big tournament. You know, we&#8217;re still playing for the same thing we were before, and there is a lot of people watching.\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span data-preserver-spaces=\"true\">As the tournament gets underway, these differences will subside into the background.
