Xabi Alonso is now at the wheel, and <a href=\"https:\/\/lastwordonsports.com\/football\/2026\/07\/25\/chelsea-morgan-rogers\/\" target=\"_self\"><span>ahead of the new season<\/span><\/a>, Gittens spoke to <a  href=\"https:\/\/www.nytimes.com\/athletic\/7470842\/2026\/07\/26\/jamie-gittens-chelsea-interview-rogers-alonso\/?unlocked_article_code=1.0lA.zyWw.-uhMcQySZU-1&amp;source=emp_shared_article&amp;smid=ta-ios-share\" target=\"_blank\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\"><span>Simon Johnson at The Athletic<\/span><\/a> regarding his preparation for the season and the aura of the new manager.<\/p>\n<h2>New Era at Stamford Bridge Begins<\/h2>\n<h3>Jamie Gittens Preparing for Improvements in 2026\/27<\/h3>\n<p>It remains to be seen if Alonso is the right appointment to bring trophies back to Stamford Bridge. <a href=\"https:\/\/lastwordonsports.com\/football\/2026\/07\/23\/chelsea-kerim-alajbegovic\/\" target=\"_self\"><span>New players are joining<\/span><\/a>, and optimism appears to be returning ahead of the 2026\/27 campaign.<\/p>\n<p>Gittens showed glimpses in his first season, but it was ultimately a big disappointment, as he failed to hold down a regular starting position and suffered with injuries. Revealing how he\u2019s feeling ahead of the new season, Gittens said:<\/p>\n<p>\u201cI\u2019m feeling much better, more confident now,\u201d he said with a big smile. \u201cMy body is better. Hamstrings are good, so I\u2019m just waiting for the season to start. I have never had hamstring injuries before. It was a challenge at the start but I am better now.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThis is such a big club. I want to succeed here. I need to show people what I can do. I will keep working hard. I have shown glimpses, small bits. As a player, that\u2019s all you want. Does he have an aura? Last season was a 4-3-3 as well, with two wingers, which is always good \u2014 so let\u2019s just see. He was obviously a top player, so for him to come in and teach us is the best thing for us. He was at Real Madrid and Liverpool, a world-class midfielder. He is probably the best to ever do it.\u201d<\/p>\n<h3>The Future for Jamie Gittens<\/h3>\n<p>Jamie Gittens enjoyed a forgettable first season in West London, delivering underwhelming performances and suffering from injury problems towards the end of the season.<\/p>\n<p>The Brit joined Chelsea in a <a  href=\"https:\/\/www.skysports.com\/football\/news\/11095\/13378111\/jamie-gittens-transfer-news-chelsea-sign-borussia-dortmund-forward-in-lb51-5m-deal\" target=\"_blank\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">\u00a351.5 million deal<\/a> from Borussia Dortmund, hoping he would bring pace, directness and a goal threat to Stamford Bridge. Unfortunately, Gittens did not deliver anywhere near the expectations.
