Manager Jesse Marsch said per CTV:

“Between Nathan (Saliba), Mathieu Choiniere, Jonathan Osario, Niko Sigur, we’re going to have to figure out how to use all of our players to get the best out of each game and help fill in the void of what Ismael has meant to the team, which has been many, many things,”

“Koné’s been an incredible player, maybe our best player in the tournament so far. And he’s also a big personality in the group. So we’ll manage it, but it won’t be easy.”

Nathan Saliba is the player who was brought in to replace Kone immediately after the injury. Saliba scored a goal, and would likely get the start. There’s a lot of positive energy around Saliba’s performance, while the question marks remain about whether Alphonso Davies, or Moise Bombito will see minutes, or even start after being managed the first two games having not fully recovered yet from injuries.

With Luc de Fourgerolles and Derek Cornelius on yellow cards, Bombito getting the start at CB would be a sensible move for Marsch if he’s fit. Bombito played a half for Canada on matchday 2 against Qatar without concern, while Davies is yet to play. Davies, if used, would likely see minutes off the bench.

Switzerland Team News

<smartframe-embed class="smartframe_wp_element" customer-id="a61405551f80e72f675225f083759bb9" image-id="fwuQaOHEbkKJ" style="width: 100%; display: inline-flex; max-width: 3200px; aspect-ratio: 3200/2133;" ></smartframe-embed>

Granit Xhaka and Johan Manzambi were on the scoresheet as Switzerland secured passage to the knockout phase with a routine win over Bosnia. While a draw against Qatar was a psychological blow for this Swiss team, they recovered on matchday 2 and now aim to press on and secure the three points to top Group B, which by ranking, they should. Switzerland left it late against Bosnia, but were still 4-1 winners, showing they have firepower in spurts to threaten even top sides.

There’s no obvious XI changes for Switzerland, a veteran side, the question is whether they will look to be the aggressor early in this contest as a draw or worse would see them finish second in the group.

Read More: The Maradona Myth: The Argentina 1986 World Cup Squad Was So Much More

Canada Predicted Lineup (4-4-2)

GK; Maxime Crepeau

Defenders: Alistair Johnston, Moise Bombito, Derek Cornelius, Richie Laryea

Midfield: Tajon Buchanan, Nathan Saliba, Stephen Eustaquio, Ali Ahmed

Forwards: Jonathan David, Cyle Larin

Switzerland Predicted Lineup (4-2-3-1)

GK: Gregor Kobel

Defenders: Silvan Widmer, Manuel Akanji, Nico Elvedi, Ricardo Rodriguez

Midfield: Granit Xhaka, Remo Freuler, Dan Ndoye

Forwards: Johan Manzambi, Breel Embolo, Ruben Vargas

Main Photo Credit: Smartframe Images

Canada needs a win or a draw against UEFA power Switzerland in order to top Group B and continue to control their own destiny at the 2026 FIFA World Cup.
