Oxford United<\/a> have parted company with Matt Bloomfield as head coach.<\/p>\n

The 42-year-old, who replaced Gary Rowett in January earlier this year, was unable to keep the U’s in the division and suffered relegation back to the third tier with two games remaining.<\/p>\n

Club Statement<\/h3>\n

In a brief statement, the club said: “Oxford United can confirm the departure of Matt Bloomfield as Men\u2019s First Team Head Coach.<\/p>\n

“Matt was appointed in January 2026 and oversaw the second half of the 2025\/26 season, a campaign which ultimately ended in relegation to League One. Throughout his tenure, he represented Oxford United with professionalism and integrity.<\/p>\n

“We would like to thank Matt for his efforts and wish him every success in the future.<\/p>\n

The process of appointing a new Men\u2019s First Team Head Coach will begin immediately, and the Club will provide updates in due course.”<\/p>\n

What Next?<\/h3>\n

This comes as somewhat of a surprise given how long ago the season ended, but it will, however, give a new head coach a full summer to implement any changes to the squad and tactics ahead of life back in League One.<\/p>\n

Back in May, chairman Grant Ferguson stepped down from his role with Indonesian-based football agent Dusan Bogdanovic replacing the Scot.<\/p>\n

Communication from the Serb has been minimal and, at the time of writing, it remains unclear if this was entirely his decision or a call made by the board.<\/p>\n

Of course, we will keep you updated on the frontrunners to take over as soon as possible.<\/p>\n
