Leicester City’s huge talent, Jakub Stolarczyk, was at times replaced by Asmir Begovic, with the Bosnian featuring 11 times. With this lack of stability and City now in League One, could we see Stolarczyk move on?

Read More: Leicester in ‘Advanced Talks’ with ‘Culture Architect’ and Expected to sell Trio

Polish Side Reportedly Interested in Leicester City’s ‘Huge Talent’ Jakub Stolarczyk

Jakub Stolarczyk: On the Move?

We are only a week into June, and several clubs are already looking to take advantage of Leicester’s turmoil. The likes of Ben Nelson, Abdul Fatawu, and Jeremy Monga are among the names being targeted, with the club looking to cash in on any sellable assets. Stolarczyk could be another name heading for the exit door, especially with reports of interest from elsewhere. Tomasz Włodarczyk reported that the Polish side Wieczysta Kraków is interested in signing the 25-year-old.

Wieczysta Kraków secured a historic promotion to the Ekstraklasa last season and are looking to strengthen with the addition of Leicester’s shot-stopper. Stolarczyk is, of course, Polish, having moved to England at the age of 16. He’s been at Leicester throughout this period, with him progressing through the youth teams before making his debut in 2023. Currently, he is tied down to a contract running until 2027. The deal was signed last summer and came just before Norwich had a bid rejected by Leicester.

It was clear he was touted to be City’s number one, but last season may have shaken up the plans. Just last week, Sky Sports reported that Leicester are in the market for a new keeper, with Sunderland’s Matty Young attracting interest. Perhaps this is a sign that the club wouldn’t mind moving away from Stolarczyk, especially as he is a homegrown asset and someone who could help their financial predicament.

Stolarczyk’s Time With The Foxes: Is it Time for Leicester City’s ‘Huge Talent’ To Move On?

Looking back, it was quite the statement from Enzo Maresca when he dismissed Daniel Iversen and Danny Ward, instead opting for an inexperienced Stolarczyk. Maresca preferred his ball-playing abilities and made him number two to Mads Hermansen for the entire season.

When called upon, he performed well, his most notable performances coming in the FA Cup, as Leicester reached the quarter-finals. Even in the Premier League, when he was called upon, he performed relatively well. Ruud Van Nistelrooy even hailed his performance away at Liverpool as ‘excellent’.

Read More: Leicester Linked With ‘Outstanding’ Premier League Talent

However, after taking on the mantle of the number one shirt, he didn’t manage to kick on. The season started well; his performance away at Charlton was a highlight. Former City winger and academy graduate Matt Piper was full of praise following this game. He said: ” We know he’s a huge talent. Shot-stopping-wise, he is outstanding. He further added, “He’s got the club in his heart. I think he’s settled in brilliantly and he’s without doubt our number one now.”

From there, it all went downhill with Leicester’s woes, leading to the aforementioned 30-game run without a clean sheet. It’s a record no goalkeeper wants, and whilst it wasn’t always his fault, mistakes when parrying or playing out from the back were costly. When reflecting on being left out of the starting eleven, he admitted, “It was disappointing; I can say now that I hated it.” Heading into League One, Stolarczyk would likely fare much better; however, the opportunity to start afresh and move back to Poland may be attractive.

Featured image courtesy of IMAGO / PPAUK

Among the several issues throughout last season, a lack of clean sheets really stung The Foxes.
