Although his first full season in the Championship didn’t reach the heights expected, he is still on the radar of a plethora of clubs. He is still set to sign a first professional deal this summer due to an agreement eleven months ago with Leicester. Clubs are honing in with Monga looking for the best pathway to the first team, and Leicester trying to secure the best possible deal.

Top Clubs Race for Jeremy Monga

<smartframe-embed class="smartframe_wp_element" customer-id="c78749ece7fd074ea5dc1889e7c53f0f" image-id="esme8TgBYB4G" style="width: 100%; display: inline-flex; max-width: 2271px; aspect-ratio: 2271/1515;" ></smartframe-embed>

Jeremy Monga: On the Move?

As reported by Steven Railstone, Manchester United have held talks with the Foxes over a possible move. A fee of £15 million has been floated around, as clubs look to take advantage of Leicester’s major woes. Monga, who made just eight starts this season, struggled to find a consistent run of games. Injuries and the manager’s favouring Stephy Mavdidi seemingly cast him away for parts of the season. Despite this, his pre-season and first few games show the heights he can reach. Becoming the youngest ever EFL Championship goalscorer was an incredible feat.

Read More: Leicester Player Admits They Didn’t Sign To Be A ‘League One Player’

Despite Michael Carrick’s side opening talks, Railstone adds that Arsenal are said to be in pole position to secure his signature. This follows on from The Telegraph’s reports that the newly crowned Premier League Champions are keen to add the winger. Whilst Arsenal have some great young talents like Max Dowman, Miles Lewis Skelly and Ethan Nwaneri, their overall academy isn’t the best. Results at these levels aren’t the best, and they struggle to produce players at the volume of the two Manchester clubs or Chelsea. Adding Monga to their repertoire would be appealing, as the pathway may be less congested.

How Does This Affect Leicester?

Heading into League One, keeping Monga would, of course, be a nice luxury, but it doesn’t seem likely. City will be desperate to recoup cash, especially for sellable assets like Monga, who are also pure profit. The money could go a long way, and it’s not clear whether the 16-year-old is ready for professional football yet. Over the season, the physical defenders were sometimes too much for him, whilst the output in front of goal was also lacking. It could be the right time to cash in, especially as the Foxes boast other talents like Jake Evans, Lorenz Hutchinson and Darren Motsi.

Read More: Leicester Gem ‘Destined For The Top’ Could Be Midfield Solution

However, with time, Monga could easily become a regular in the Premier League. He excels when taking on his man, and utilises both feet in a way that has garnered comparisons with Ballon d’Or winner Ousmane Dembele. Less pressure on being ready for leagues like the Championship could seriously help; even more so with some of the best coaches in the world. It’s likely that the race will continue on through the summer, with a bidding war only aiding Leicester. Next season in League One will be crucial, and having money to spend could make the mission of going straight back up all the easier.

Featured Image Credit

IMAGO / News Images

Ever since bursting onto the scene last year, Jeremy Monga has been one of the most highly thought of youngsters across Europe.
