For the Red Devils, it’s been a season of two halves.

Coming off the back of the worst Premier League campaign in the club’s history, all the pressure was on Ruben Amorim. Although he departed Manchester United with the team in sixth, the uptick in form under Michael Carrick gave life to several of the players and brought Champions League football back to Old Trafford.

In a season that can largely be regarded as a success, let’s look at Manchester United player ratings for the 2025/26 season.

Read More: Michael Carrick Confirmed as Manchester United Head Coach

Manchester United Player Ratings 2025-2026

<smartframe-embed class="smartframe_wp_element" customer-id="c78749ece7fd074ea5dc1889e7c53f0f" image-id="esmePYbAQrtm" style="width: 100%; display: inline-flex; max-width: 4384px; aspect-ratio: 4384/2923;" ></smartframe-embed>

Goalkeepers

Andre Onana 1/10

Harsh? Maybe. Accurate? Definitely. Andre Onana was dropped at the beginning of the season by Amorim, becoming the ‘cup’ goalkeeper. He featured just once for United this season, in a miserable 2-2 draw against Grimsby in the cup, where he would go on to concede 12 penalties as United crashed out of the competition.

Altay Bayindir 6/10

Altay Bayindir was forced into the #1 position at the beginning of the season; however, his ability is much more suited as a backup. He’s suffered due to a lack of cup football at United and will likely leave the club in the summer. Conceding 11 goals in his six Premier League starts this season, he didn’t give the best account of himself.

Read More: Inside the battle to become Manchester United’s #1

Senne Lammens 8/10

Manchester United’s signing of the season, Senne Lammens, has come into the team and transformed it. A solid pair of hands in goal, confident, calm and with the ability to do the basics well, Lammens has made defenders’ lives a lot less stressful. With multiple man of the match awards to his name, he’s cementing himself as the #1 and appears to be the best business United have done in years.

Wide Defenders

Diogo Dalot 5/10

A below-par season for Dalot, although he has been ever-present at right back for the Red Devils. With three assists and a goal, his return hasn’t been anything to worry opposition defenders, and he’s often caught out of position. His adaptation from right wing back to right back has to be appreciated, but he’ll be looking to do better next year.

Noussair Mazraoui 4/10

After being one of Manchester United’s most important players last term, Noussair Mazraoui has struggled to get into the team this time around. Last season, he made 57 appearances, something he hasn’t managed to get near since. He has suffered with injuries and had time out of the squad to compete in the African Cup of Nations, which could explain why he hasn’t been playing. When he has played, he’s been decent.

Luke Shaw 6/10

<smartframe-embed class="smartframe_wp_element" customer-id="04742eb90cefa12a5e3ab9bae92c2b93" image-id="neimrdm4o0yJ" style="width: 100%; display: inline-flex; max-width: 4495px; aspect-ratio: 4495/2995;" ></smartframe-embed>

Luke Shaw has been the most consistent name on the Manchester United team sheet this season, making 38 appearances, the most of his career in the league. He hasn’t had to compete for his spot, which has arguably led to lacklustre performances. This is highlighted by his single assist this season. Being fit and available is a huge step forward for Shaw, but at this level, it should be expected. He can count himself as a little unlucky not to make England’s World Cup squad.

Patrick Dorgu 6/10

Although he predominantly operated as a more advanced left-sided player, Dorgu was playing phenomenally until an injury derailed his campaign. With four goals and four assists, at times Dorgu was unplayable. He scored the winning goal against Newcastle, a goal against Manchester City and another goal against Arsenal a week later.

Central Defenders

Harry Maguire 7/10

Harry Maguire has played an impressive 23 games this season, but failed to make Thomas Tuchel’s World Cup squad. Having to adapt from a three-at-the-back system, one which suits his style, to a two-at-the-back system seems to have been completed seamlessly by Maguire. He’s been consistent, reliable and an experienced head on the pitch for Michael Carrick.

Matthijs de Ligt 3/10

It’s difficult to judge Matthijs de Ligt’s year because when he has played, he has performed well. Unfortunately for the Dutchman, he only managed 13 appearances and has been out of action since November. Suffering from a back injury, De Ligt has missed a total of 27 games; however, after surgery, he’s set to return at the beginning of next season.

Lisandro Martinez 5/10

After missing the beginning of the term, Lisandro Martinez didn’t start a game until Boxing Day. After this, he was able to make nine starts before suffering another injury that kept him out for a further five games. Upon his return, he got a red card for hair-pulling and missed three matches.

Even when Martinez did play, he didn’t perform particularly well and was largely exposed due to a lack of pace, although when he did play further forward, he progressed the ball well.

Lenny Yoro 6/10

At just 20 years old, Yoro has had yet another development year. He’s featured 32 times this season, predominantly off the bench. He’s become reliable, strong as the last man, as he’s able to use his pace and a strong choice off the bench to see out a game. Having struggled to play 90 minutes this term, the Frenchman will be hoping to play more consistently next season.

Ayden Heaven 7/10

After signing for just £1 million last summer and featuring six times, Ayden Heaven made himself into a reliable, respected name on the team sheet in his first campaign. As a naturally left-footed player, Heaven slotted in seamlessly to cover Martinez when the Argentine defender was injured. United have only lost once when Heaven has featured this season.

He’s quick, shows experience despite only being 19 and is certainly one for the future if he can continue to get regular minutes.

Central Midfielders

Casemiro 7/10

After a slow start, Brazilian defensive midfielder Casemiro has become one of Manchester United’s most important players in the Carrick era. Not only has he leaned on his experience to aid United in the tough, gritty games by winning free kicks, slowing the game down and committing tactical fouls, but his output, especially from corners, has been vital. He’s recorded nine goals this season, the best of his career to date.

Having announced part-way through the year that he would be leaving at the end of his contract, there’s little doubt that the Brazilian’s boots are going to be huge ones to fill.

Manuel Ugarte 3/10

It’s entirely reasonable to sum up Manuel Ugarte’s season (and United career as a whole) as an underwhelming disappointment. He’s struggled to get into the team; when he has, he hasn’t impressed, and when he’s been brought on to see a result out, it often leads to more tense moments.

Whether it was under Amorim or Carrick, Ugarte has been unable to impress and will likely see the exit door this summer.

Kobbie Mainoo 6/10

<smartframe-embed class="smartframe_wp_element" customer-id="04742eb90cefa12a5e3ab9bae92c2b93" image-id="ARCH594601_00289280" style="width: 100%; display: inline-flex; max-width: 5504px; aspect-ratio: 5504/3669;" ></smartframe-embed>

A season of two halves for England’s Kobbie Mainoo. Under Amorim, he couldn’t get a game, had seismic issues with regard to being under-utilised. He didn’t start a single time under Amorim until his departure, coming on as a substitute on 12 occasions. Under Carrick, he’s started 14 games, only missing one due to a knock.

He’s now made Thomas Tuchel’s England squad for the upcoming World Cup due to his impressive form. Working in the number eight role alongside Casemiro, Mainoo has once again made the position his own at Old Trafford and having signed a new contract recently, it shows just how valuable he is to The Red Devils. He gets a six rather than anything higher this season, as he has only regularly played for half the season. If it were just Mainoo under Carrick, a seven, pushing an eight would be more appropriate.

Mason Mount 5/10

Mason Mount has had yet another season plagued by injuries. Manchester United’s number seven has missed nine games due to injury, and vitally, these have come just as he was finding form. Receiving his first start since December against Sunderland earlier this month, he failed to impress, putting in a below-average performance.

He offers something different to Bruno Fernandes in the number 10 role; however, with Bruno’s current output, it’s impossible for him to have a run of games in the attacking midfield position. Unfortunately for Mount, he, yet again, has struggled to find his feet at Old Trafford and could see the exit door this summer.

Bruno Fernandes 9/10

Bruno Fernandes has been the glue that has held together Manchester United for yet another season, and it has been a record-breaking one, recording the most assists by a single player in a Premier League season with 21.

The club captain has adapted to whatever has been thrown at him, and although he had a poor start to the season, there was a clear and logical reason for that… he was being played out of position. The Portuguese playmaker is not a defensive midfielder. He’s a number 10, and when playing, he is the best in the league and potentially in the world.

Under Amorim, Fernandes was being ‘fitted in’ to a position that didn’t suit him. It wasn’t natural, nor did he perform well. He always gave 100%; however, it was clear that he wasn’t comfortable in that position. He couldn’t influence the game like he could at number 10.

As soon as Carrick took over, one thing was clear. Bruno Fernandes was to be moved higher up the pitch in order to influence the game in an attacking sense. That change arguably changed United’s fortunes. Fernandes recorded nine goals and the record-breaking 21 assists this season, an incredible output for someone who was being played out of position until December.

Without Bruno, there’s a good chance that United don’t get Champions League football this year; however, due to his incredible output, they’ll play in Europe’s premier competition next season.

To top it off, Bruno was awarded the Premier League player of the season… and rightfully so.

Wide Forwards

Bryan Mbeumo 7/10

Like many United players in this campaign, new summer signing, Bryan Mbeumo, had mixed fortunes. Unlike many, his best output came under Amorim. The former Brentford man recorded six goals and one assist prior to going to the African Cup of Nations. Since then, he’s had a slight drop off in form, scoring a further five goals.

It’s worth noting that, rather than a wide forward playing just behind the striker under Amorim, Mbuemo has been deployed as the out-and-out striker more often under Carrick, a position he’s largely unfamiliar with throughout his career.

Although his output has slightly reduced, there’s no denying that he’s vital in United’s current system. His pace when put on the wing allows United to break at speed, stretching defences and allowing for openings for Bruno to operate within. As a debut season, Mbuemo can chalk this campaign down as a success.

Mattheus Cunha 7/10

Like Mbuemo, Cunha came in in the summer with a big reputation after a very successful spell at Wolves. The Brazilian’s willingness to take a player on, try and beat his man and drive into the box is something that United fans of old used to marvel at Ryan Giggs doing on a weekly basis. His playing style is a breath of fresh air in the current safety-first outlook on the game.

The 26-year-old, like Mbeumo, has played in several different positions since his arrival, either as a left winger, centre forward or shadow striker. Despite drawing a blank in his first seven appearances, Cunha soon re-found his form and became vital for the side. To see United’s number 10 on the team sheet fills fans with confidence because everyone knows what he’s capable of. Once he settles in next year, expect him to be back to his blistering best. With that being said, he’s still had a very good season.

Amad Diallo 5/10

Yet another Manchester United player who was a victim of the managerial and systemic change. Under Amorim, Amad was deployed as a right-wing back, a position that he adapted to and performed well. He chipped in with two goals, three assists and was a constant handful for defenders. After getting the call-up for AFCON, however, his form appears to have dipped.

Under Carrick, he’s failed to impress. Although he’s been given plenty of opportunities to operate from a higher position on the right, his return has been minimal. It’s worth remembering that the Ivorian is still just 23 years of age and at United alone has experienced seven managers.

If he can get out of the habit of chasing the headline and shooting at every opportunity, he would perform far better. Let’s hope he can kick on next time out.

Strikers

Joshua Zirkzee 3/10

For the second term in a row, Joshua Zirkzee has failed to kick on. He’s been unable to nail down a starting position and is another man who has suffered due to the lack of cup football.

The Dutchman is stuck between two positions, being the man who can either play as a striker or just behind him. With that being said, like Mason Mount, it’s impossible for him to operate in that position when Bruno is in the form that he currently is.

Being deployed as a substitute more often than not, Zirkzee hasn’t performed well, hasn’t convinced anyone that he’s capable of being a United player and will more than likely be heading towards the exit door if he can garner interest.

Benjamin Sesko 6/10

<smartframe-embed class="smartframe_wp_element" customer-id="04742eb90cefa12a5e3ab9bae92c2b93" image-id="ARCH796472_00356454" style="width: 100%; display: inline-flex; max-width: 4177px; aspect-ratio: 4177/2785;" ></smartframe-embed>

Benjamin Sesko’s first season in the Premier League has been average. Not bad, not mind-blowing. The Slovenian has prospered under Carrick, scoring several important goals and notching seven strikes under his new boss.

He’s a handful for defenders and at 6ft 5 with pace, can develop into a big player for United. Good at holding up the ball, Sesko has been able to bring the wide players that United deploy into play and occupy defenders, allowing for Bruno Fernandes to pull the strings.

His finishing ability shows just how vital a player he can be, and as he adapts further to English football, expect him to become more dangerous for opposition defenders.

Featured Image Credit

IMAGO / ZUMA Press Wire

Last Word on Football brings you the Manchester United player ratings 2025/26.
