He made a bright start to his time at Grenoble Road and although performances were often inconsistent, he still looked a promising addition.

However, like Currie, he has also been limited to just 29 league appearances due to injury, but unlike Currie, he has arguably been kept out of the side at times due to the form of Sam Long.

His stock has not only risen at club level, but also at international level with the 22-year-old featuring regularly alongside Ciaron Brown with Northern Ireland.

Ciaron Brown

Sticking with Brown, he is another who could be targeted with a move away from Grenoble Road this summer.

Last season, in Oxford’s first campaign back in the second tier in 25 years, the centre back scooped both the Player’s Player and Supporters’ Player of the Year awards.

And despite missing the back end of last summer, pre-season and the first nine games of this campaign with injury, he once again has rarely put a foot wrong at the heart of defence.

Since returning to the lineup against Derby in October, he played every single game for the rest of the campaign, even playing every single minute bar the last nine against Norwich when he was replaced by Ben Davies.

And his consistency remains a key positive. It doesn’t matter who he plays alongside – Davies, Long, Michal Helik, Christ Makosso – his performances are always there.

While he may not be a marquee signing for another club, at 28, the Northern Ireland international may feel he has the opportunity for one last decent move to a second-tier club which could curtail his four-year spell with the U’s.

Brian De Keersmaecker

Midfielder Brian De Keersmaecker was Oxford’s first summer addition and he looked a cut above from the off.

Linked with Blackburn, among others, the Belgian also hit the ground running with Oxford and showed his capabilities in front of goal with a terrific strike during the club’s pre-season tour of Indonesia.

However, a combination of Gary Rowett’s failure to find a settled midfield and a season-ending injury at the end of January meant U’s fans didn’t see the best of him.

However, he played enough to know there is a player there and with Championship interest previously, clubs could reignite their interest in the summer.

Stan Mills

Stan Mills had a superb campaign for the U’s, clinching both the Player’s Player and Supporter’s Player of the Year awards at the end of the season.

The former Everton man, who joined permanently last January after a successful loan spell when the U’s were in League One, has come on leaps and bounds in his development.

The 22-year-old was sidelined for several months with injury between his loan spell and his permanent move and, at times, still looks fearful in his play that the injury could return.

But his pace, directness and attacking intent was a real threat, particularly under Matt Bloomfield in the second half of the season. The young winger hit three goals and provided four assists, but his play often deserved more. After this season, he could arguably be Oxford’s most prized asset.

Featured image courtesy of IMAGO / Focus Images

Having suffered relegation from the Championship, it seems inevitable that Oxford United could lose some players this summer.
