He said: “Krejci is progressing well, but he won’t be right for tomorrow. We’re hopeful for the week after. He joined in parts of training today, but obviously it’s too soon to come into it.

“Then, Sa is a slight doubt again, but not with the issue that he had on his shoulder and his back; it’s more his ankle, so we’re going to try and get that right. There’s a chance that he misses potentially the next game or two, because we’re really keen to try and get that right. He’s been playing through quite a bit of pain for a while now, so I think it’s the right thing to do.”

Even though his side are relegated and will play Championship football next season, he said his players are giving everything. “That side of it can’t be questioned, certain bits can be – a bit of quality – and we’ll always make mistakes, and there’ll be things that we can improve on. It was feared that the January signing would miss the rest of the season; however, he has recovered sooner than expected.

Bertrand Traore and Nilson Angulo have begun training. There’s a chance that they could be involved against Wolves, but more realistically, it will be the following game.

The Sunderland head coach is expecting a reaction following the home defeat to Nottingham Forest. He said: “We are working hard, but the league is evolving. I don’t know if we dropped our standards or if our opponent found solutions to hurt us. Probably both.

“We are working hard, it’s not easy because it’s about small margins. We talked about the organisation, different problems, commitment to win duels, and the second phase too. It’s about culture, and I hope we’ll fix this problem soon.

“If you start dreaming, maybe you can drop your standards. Probably the lesson from the previous games, two semi-finalists from the Europa League, nine goals we conceded, and this is a lesson about our level right now. So the next challenge is to be competitive, to win, and we’ll see what the three points mean in the table.”

Wolves Predicted Lineup

Jose Sa
Santi Bueno
Y.
