The Foxes have been desperate for a striker this season, as a Jamie Vardy replacement still hasn’t come through the door. Jordan Ayew and Patson Daka don’t have the numbers in front of goal, whilst Julian Carranza was recalled. Therefore, with identifying a new number nine being necessary, it looks like Leicester have got their man.

Leicester Leave It Late As They Close In On Jamaican International

Dujuan Richards: On the move:

As reported by Pete O’Rourke, the Chelsea forward has agreed a deal with the East Midlands-based club. Richards is coming off the back of an ACL injury, which kept him out for the entire 2024/25 season. Prior to this, he had a decent record for Chelsea’s under-21 side in PL2, as he scored seven goals in 10 games. He originally came through the Phoenix academy with Joe Shields watching him, and eventually brought him over to Stamford Bridge. Since coming back from the injury, Richards has played 13 times, with just two goals.

Read More: Former Star Explains Why Leicester Are in Crisis and With ‘No Clear Direction’

In terms of Leicester’s situation, any players added to the squad are more than necessary. Joe Aribo has already been announced officially, whilst Jamaal Lascelles and Divne Musaka are also expected to make the move to King Power Stadium. Richards would join the influx of signings and add plenty of competition to the attackers, both out wide and upfront. Whether or not he can hit the ground running isn’t clear just yet, but he could play a pivotal role by the end of the season.

What Does Richards Offer Leicester:

In terms of what Richards offers is pace and a direct option. He seems to be at his best when out wide and in those one-versus-one situations. His athleticism and power can be a real handful for defenders, which could bode well for his step up into men’s football. Moreover, he will offer depth and challenge the likes of Daka, Ayew and the wingers such as Fatawu. Having someone versatile for all these roles will help with the gruelling nature of the Championship. Furthermore, him coming in for Fatawu on the right would also allow the Ghanian to reduce his minutes, and not have to be relied upon as much.

Read More: Leicester Announce Signing of ‘Humble’ and ‘Amazing’ Championship Midfielder

However, Leicester relying on a 20-year-old, who has just come off the back of a severe injury, could be worrying. His numbers since returning haven’t been the best, and perhaps suggest that he is still getting back to his best. In addition to this, the Championship is incredibly physical, so the process of adapting will also be a challenge for the forward.

When discussing the youngster, the aforementioned Shields had a glowing review, which certainly is a positive for City supporters. He said: “Dujuan can be a really special player. If he keeps his feet on the ground & works hard, he can have a fantastic career.” This hard-working nature that Shields emphasises is perhaps best shown through Richards wanting to improve upon his defensive game in an interview. A player keen to constantly develop is another positive aspect, and may be a reason why he initially hit the ground running when he arrived at Chelsea.

Despite the transfer window now being complete, Leicester City make one last move. 20-year-old striker Dujuan Richards is City’s latest target, as they leave it late once again on deadline day.
