Their opponents on Sunday, Arsenal, haven’t had as much of a rest as the Red Devils. Arsenal played away to Inter Milan on Tuesday evening, winning 3-1.

All eyes will be on Michael Carrick’s starting line-up on Sunday after he left out big names against City at Old Trafford. Will the Sir Alex Ferguson protégé adapt his line-up when playing away from home? Only time will tell.

Read More: Who could replace Casemiro at Old Trafford?

Manchester United Team News and Predicted Lineup vs Arsenal for January 25th

Team and Injury News

Only two notable names have been confirmed to be out for Manchester United’s trip to The Emirates Stadium on Sunday.

Defender Matthijs de Ligt remains out of the squad due to injury, with the club confirming that he isn’t yet fit to feature. The former Bayern Munich man has now been out for 10 games. Michael Carrick said during his press conference: “He had a bit of a setback before I arrived, only small, but he was a little bit slower than we would have liked. He’s getting closer, and hopefully, in the next couple of weeks, he will be back and around it.”

Also out is Joshua Zirkzee, who, like de Ligt, missed training this week. Rumours continue to swirl about whether the Dutchman will leave Old Trafford in this January’s transfer window; however, nothing is confirmed yet.

Morocco’s Noussair Mazraoui, fresh off his disappointment of losing the AFCON final, could be featured. Expect it to be off the bench if at all. He made the AFCON best XI, suggesting that he’s in form ahead of his return.

Selection and Formation

Senne Lammens picks himself. Having kept his third clean sheet of the season against City last weekend, it’s a no-brainer. He’s cemented his position as United’s #1. It will take something special to displace him.

Expect Carrick to stick to his four-man defence. This continuity marks the transition away from the three-man defence used under former manager Ruben Amorim.

There’s no reason to suggest that United will change their back four ahead of the Arsenal clash.

Expect a back four of Diogo Dalot at right back, Harry Maguire and Lisandro Martinez at centre-backs, and Luke Shaw on the left-hand side.

Casemiro rolled back the years against City, and after a week off, expect him to slot straight back into defensive midfield. Kobbie Mainoo enjoyed his first start of the season with a great display, linking the defence to the attack, making him a sure-fire pick for this weekend’s clash with Arsenal.

What is a Manchester United predicted lineup without this man? Captain, Bruno Fernandes, put in a man-of-the-match performance, showing once again what he’s capable of when he is played in the #10 position. A classic counter-attacking goal saw Fernandes slot in Bryan Mbeumo with a flawless pass. As ever, his work rate was fantastic. Bruno is the first name on the team sheet.

Again, it’s a case of ‘if it isn’t broken, don’t fix it’. Amad Diallo, Mbeumo, and Patrick Dorgu’s stunning performances last weekend ran City’s defence ragged, forcing Gianluigi Donnarumma into pulling off a number of amazing saves. There was only so much the Italian keeper could do, however, conceding two goals from United’s forwards, Mbeumo and Dorgu.

Manchester United Predicted Lineup

Lammes
Dalot
Maguire
Martinez
Shaw
Casemiro
Mainoo
Fernandes
Mbuemo
Dorgu
Diallo

Substitutes: Bayindir, Heaven, Yoro, Mazraoui, Ugarte, Mount, Lacey, Cunha, Sesko

Do you agree with our Manchester United predicted lineup?
