In fact, both were strikes of real beauty from Oxford.

First, Stan Mills squared the ball to skipper Cameron Brannagan who struck the ball first time with power and whip right into the top corner.

Then, second-half substitute Przemyslaw Placheta came to the rescue in stoppage time. Again, the U’s recycled the ball, Siriki Dembele squared it and the Pole struck first time into the bottom corner past former Oxford goalkeeper, Max Crocombe.

It was reassuring that the U’s were able to score twice from open play but it was the case again that both were wonder strikes.

Sloppy Defending

However, at the other end, it wasn’t a great display from the team as a defensive unit.

Millwall’s first goal came from a long throw but the ball was allowed to bounce in the box before the Lions midfielder had a free header.

The second goal was also poor from a defensive standpoint with Millwall easily allowed to take a shot on goal, and while Jamie Cumming did save the attempt, he only parried it into the path of the Lions player.

Featured image courtesy of IMAGO / Pro Sports Images

Oxford United netted a stoppage-time equaliser to take a vital point at home against high-flying Millwall.
