Enzo Maresca was speaking to the media ahead of his London derby with Tottenham Hotspur at the weekend. The manager provided an updated on the Chelsea team news, speaking on four players specifically. The Italian gave the thumbs up that three are available, while one was ruled out of the match, no further updates were given on some long-term absentees.<\/p>\n

Deemed Available<\/h3>\n

Joao Pedro didn’t play any part in the 4-3 win over Wolves in the EFL Cup but the manager was quick to note<\/a> that this was to protect him. The Brazilian is one of the three players who are going to be available for the derby this weekend after having an appropriate rest.<\/p>\n

The other two players form the core of the Blues’ midfield. Enzo Fernandez and Moises Caicedo will be eligible for selection. They both came off the bench against the Wanderers to help see out the game and despite navigating small issues will be ok to play on Saturday. This is a big bonus for the manager and fans as this allows for more tactical flexibility with Romeo Lavia also having a solid run of fitness.<\/p>\n

Star Man Ruled Out<\/h3>\n

When asked about the status of one Cole Palmer, Maresca had a slightly comedic response but was clear that the attacker will be evaluated on a week-to-week basis. The Englishman has been out for a long stretch due to his groin injury and is being managed to avoid the worst case scenario.<\/p>\n

The coach maintained that they will wait until Palmer is ready, giving him time to ease his way back to fitness in a similar manner to Reece James and the aforementioned Lavia who have had their minutes meticulously managed to avoid flare-ups of previous problems.<\/p>\n
