Leicester City’s underwhelming start to the 2025\/26 campaign hit a new low last time out as they were beaten by Sergej Jakirovic\u2019s Hull City. The Foxes have now picked up just eight points from their last seven fixtures, form which leaves them ninth in the league. However, a trip to the Den offers a chance to change their fortunes. In the midweek clash at the MKM Stadium, Marti Cifuentes made several changes. One of the constants between the two elevens was Jakub Stolarczyk, who has started every game in between the sticks this season. Likewise, the centre-back partnership of Jannik Vestergaard and Wout Faes once again returned, although this did become a back three when Caleb Okoli came off the bench. Rounding off their backline, academy graduates Luke Thomas and Hamza Choudhury also started.<\/p>\n

Despite the recent success of Harry Winks and Jordan James in the double pivot, the Welshmen began proceedings in the number 10 role. Subsequently, Boubakary Soumar\u00e9 came back into the picture, as Burnley loanee Aaron Ramsey missed out.<\/div>\n

Furthermore, in the attacking roles, Abdul Fatawu remained prominent on the right. However, off the left, Jordan Ayew featured, whilst young talents Silko Thomas and Jeremy Monga were on the bench. Following a disappointing run of results with five draws in their last six, Leicester needed an improved performance against the Tigers. Whilst this was always going to be a tough game given the home side’s victories over Sheffield United, Birmingham City and Southampton, few people foresaw the Foxes’ extreme struggles.<\/div>\n

The first 45 minutes were perhaps the worst half of football this season from Marti Cifuentes’ side. In a similar vein to the clash away at Preston North End, Hull managed to expose Leicester’s frailties in transition. With Luke Thomas expected to push forward and hold width like a winger, when Leicester lost the ball, there was lots of space for Hull to play into. As a result, the home side ended the half with a two-goal lead, and it’s fair to say it was fully deserved.<\/div>\n

Whilst this did change in the second half, it was too little too late. The addition of Monga and Ramsey certainly made a difference, especially as it was Ramsey who scored the equaliser. Although 12 shots and a total of 69% possession came for Cifuentes’ side during the half, they lacked the quality in front of goal. Creating high-quality chances has been an ongoing problem for City this season, a claim further exemplified by the club boasting the eighth-worst X.G in the league.<\/div>\n

The recent slump sees City reside in ninth place, and a stunning eight points behind league leaders Coventry City. The focus now turns to the trip to the Den, where third-placed Millwall will be fancying their chances.<\/div>\n

As confirmed by\u00a0the Spaniard<\/a>, injuries will affect City\u2019s squad for the Tuesday night clash. Mavididi has been a doubt ever since he suffered a small muscular issue, but he is an option after returning to training. In addition to this, Decordova Reid is suffering from a small hamstring issue, which sees him sidelined for Saturday’s clash.<\/div>\n
