The Blues enter this one off the back of a much-needed win over Benfica as they limp towards the international break. Injuries are wearing down an already tired unit as the manager will be without a large number of players going into this one. They take on a Reds side that appears vulnerable after losing their last two fixtures. They travel to Stamford Bridge in need of a win to keep their stranglehold atop the table.

Chelsea Predicted Lineup vs Liverpool for Premier League Tie

How Chelsea Have Lined Up Recently

Robert Sanchez is the main option in goal. Filip Jorgensen got a run out in the EFL Cup but his performance looked shaky, opening the door for the former Brighton man to further solidify his spot as the number one. The back line has been chopped and changed with centre-back partnerships involving Wesley Fofana, Trevoh Chalobah, Tosin Adarabioyo, Benoit Badiashile, and Jorrel Hato in recent weeks. Hato has also played on the left where Marc Cucurella is first-choice.

Right back has been a battle between Malo Gusto and Reece James as the manager aims to keep both men fit and firing. Moises Caicedo and Enzo Fernandez are the main defensive midfield pivot with Andrey Santos providing an extra option.

Up front, they’ve had Enzo push into the front line as the attacking midfielder where they like to use Facundo Buonanotte as cover for injuries. Pedro Neto, Estevao, Jamie Gittens, and Alejandro Garnacho are the wide options.

Options have been limited in the striker spot with Joao Pedro playing there a lot, he’s been run into the ground almost. Tyrique George has come in to let him rest but the winger is a different profile than needed at such a key spot on the field.

Chelsea Recent Form & Tactics

Enzo Maresca has stuck with his 4-2-3-1 setup that shifts in possession to overload the middle. He tends to aim for a diamond midfield either with one member of the pivot moving to the attacking midfield spot with the attacking midfielder, or with a wide player tucking in as the full-back occupies space. There’s also the Cucurella x-factor as he tries to underlap on the left to stretch the defenders even more and open gaps for the two attacking midfielders to crash the box. It’s a system prone to counters if they don’t get cut off early.

Mixed form recently for the Blues. Two wins, three defeats in their last five including three consecutive matches where they’ve ended with ten players due to a red card. The defensive frailties shone through as they let in three against Bayern Munich and three more against Brighton & Hove Albion. A clean sheet in midweek against Benfica provides some hope that they’ve figured things out.

Chelsea Injuries to Consider

According to PremierInjuries, the manager will be without nine different options for this one. Chalobah is serving his suspension for his red card while Mykhailo Mudryk remains suspended indefinitely. Long-term, Levi Colwill, Dario Essugo, Liam Delap, and Cole Palmer are sidelined. Santos, Fofana, and Tosin are dealing with minor issues but could be back after the international break.

Chelsea Predicted Lineup vs Liverpool

There could be a surprise or two up the manager’s sleeve as he aims to fill the gap in the attack left by Palmer and Delap, his limited CB options also make a rare start for Josh Acheampong most likely.

GK – Robert Sanchez

LB – Marc Cucurella

CB – Benoit Badiashile

CB – Josh Acheampong

RB – Reece James

DM – Romeo Lavia

DM – Moises Caicedo

AM – Enzo Fernandez

LW – Pedro Neto

RW – Estevao

ST – Joao Pedro

Featured Image

IMAGO / Action Plus
RECORD DATE NOT STATED 19th December 2024 Stamford Bridge, London, England UEFA Conference League Football, Chelsea versus Shamrock Rovers a general view of Stamford Bridge stadium entrance with logo PUBLICATIONxNOTxINxUK ActionPlus12728689 HenningxvonxJagow

This is a Chelsea predicted lineup for their Premier League clash with Liverpool.
