{"id":660164,"date":"2025-10-02T00:00:13","date_gmt":"2025-10-02T04:00:13","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/lastwordonsports.com\/football\/?p=660164"},"modified":"2025-10-01T17:44:20","modified_gmt":"2025-10-01T21:44:20","slug":"three-talking-points-oxford-united-draw-qpr","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/lastwordonsports.com\/football\/2025\/10\/02\/three-talking-points-oxford-united-draw-qpr\/","title":{"rendered":"Three Talking Points as Oxford United Draw at QPR"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><a href=\"https:\/\/lastwordonsports.com\/football\/2025\/09\/30\/team-news-form-predicted-line-up-oxford-united-qpr\/\" target=\"_self\">Oxford United<\/a> played out a scrappy goalless draw in West London on Wednesday night as the U&#8217;s picked up a point at QPR.<\/p>\n<p>It wasn&#8217;t the most entertaining fixture at Loftus Road but the majority of Oxford fans will be pleased with the point.<\/p>\n<p>Here are three talking points from the game.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Read More<\/strong>: <a href=\"https:\/\/lastwordonsports.com\/football\/2025\/09\/30\/team-news-form-predicted-line-up-oxford-united-qpr\/\" target=\"_self\">Team News, Form and Predicted Line-Up as Oxford United Travel to QPR\u00a0<\/a><\/p>\n<h2>Oxford United Draw at QPR<\/h2>\n<h3>Poor Set Pieces<\/h3>\n<p>Oxford have looked a real threat from set pieces in recent weeks, with the victory at Bristol City a particular highlight as the U&#8217;s scored all three goals from dead-ball situations.<\/p>\n<p>Unfortunately, at Loftus Road, Gary Rowett&#8217;s side squandered several opportunities from these positions, with the usually reliable Brian De Keersmaecker often over-hitting some of his attempts.<\/p>\n<p>Despite that, a game is changed in a second and the U&#8217;s could have left West London, ironically with a chance from a set piece, when Michal Helik headed wide four minutes into stoppage time.<\/p>\n<p>But the U&#8217;s will be looking to get back to the training ground and work on this ahead of another trip to the area when they face Watford on Saturday.<\/p>\n<h3>Lack of Attacking Input<\/h3>\n<p>As mentioned in the intro, it was a scrappy game from both sides with QPR the only side to register a solitary shot on target.<\/p>\n<p>Both goalkeepers were spectators for the majority of the game, but Jamie Cumming was on hand on the one occasion that he was tested.<\/p>\n<p>At the other end, Oxford&#8217;s chances were few and far between and despite the front four looking lively in recent games, they lacked a clinical edge at Loftus Road.<\/p>\n<h3>Clean Sheet<\/h3>\n<p>However, at the other end of the pitch, it was a solid and impressive display from the back four.<\/p>\n<p>Rowett named an unchanged starting lineup, which meant Jack Currie, Sam Long, Helik, and Brodie Spencer were once again the defensive options.<\/p>\n<p>The quartet put their bodies on the line against a physical R&#8217;s side and were determined to get their first clean sheet of the season.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Oxford United played out a scrappy goalless draw in West London on Wednesday night as the U&#8217;s picked up a point at QPR.
