Sunderland had goalkeeper Robin Roefs to thank as he produced several excellent saves to keep the Eagles from scoring.

Regis Le Bris decided to give striker Wilson Isidor his first start of the season after he had twice scored after coming off the bench. Enzo Le Fee was ruled out due to an injury in training, so Simon Adingra came back into the starting lineup.

The Black Cats rarely threatened but will have been happy to have gained their first away point of the season.

Sunderland Starting Eleven vs Crystal Palace: Roefs, Hume, Alderete, Mukiele, Reinildo, Xhaka ©, Sadiki, Diarra, Talbi, Adingra, Isidor.

Subs: Patterson, Neil, Gerrtruida, Brobbey, Rigg, Mayenda, Traore, Masuaku, Jones

Injury News

Enzo Le Fee and Dan Ballard are back in contention and could play. However, Luke O’Nien, Dennis Cirkin, and Romain Mundle are still unavailable.

Read More: Newcastle Slayer Fabio Borini Talks Sunderland Survival Chances

Regis Le Bris: “We Need to be at Our Best”

Speaking in his pre-match press conference, head coach Regis Le Bris has insisted that his side must be at their best against Aston Villa, despite the visitors having had a poor start to the season. He said: “They are a strong team. They haven’t started well, and it’s been below their expectations.

“But they are a top-six team, no doubt, so we will have to play our best football. We won’t get gifts from them, so we have to be at our best. Confidence is always important. It is the case for us and for the best teams in the league. They are very well coached and have a good culture together, and I’m sure they will improve, but we don’t know when.”

Sunderland Predicted Lineup

Head Coach Regis Le Bris has a welcome selection headache this weekend. Both Eleixer Mayend and Wilson Isidor have started up front so far this season, plus new signing Brian Brobbey will also be looking to force his way into the starting lineup.

Wilson Isidor has had more impact coming off the bench so far, scoring two goals. Therefore, it is expected that he will return to his super sub role. Eliezer Mayenda should start with Brobbey having to settle for a place on the bench once more.

Enzo Le Fee and Dan Ballard are back in contention, but both are likely to start as substitutes.

Here is our Sunderland predicted line-up

GK Roefs
RB Hume
CB Mukiele
CB Alderete
LB Reinildo
CM Xhaka ©
CM Sadiki
CM Diarra
RW Talbi
LW Adingra
ST Mayenda

Subs: Patterson, Gerrtruida, Rigg, Le Fee, Isidor, Ballard, Brobbey, Traore, Masuaku

Current odds

Sunderland 5/2
Aston Villa 11/10
Draw 11/5

Odds are from Sky Bet and are correct as of Friday, September 19.

Sunderland will be looking for their third straight home win of the season and pile more misery on out-of-form Aston Villa.
