{"id":656373,"date":"2025-07-01T13:23:18","date_gmt":"2025-07-01T17:23:18","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/lastwordonsports.com\/football\/?p=656373"},"modified":"2025-07-01T13:23:18","modified_gmt":"2025-07-01T17:23:18","slug":"brian-de-keersmaecker-joins-oxford-united","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/lastwordonsports.com\/football\/2025\/07\/01\/brian-de-keersmaecker-joins-oxford-united\/","title":{"rendered":"Brian De Keersmaecker Joins Oxford United"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><a href=\"https:\/\/lastwordonsports.com\/football\/2025\/06\/30\/jamie-cumming-new-deal-oxford-united\/\" target=\"_self\">Oxford United<\/a> have made their first signing of the summer with the arrival of Belgian midfielder, Brian De Keersmaecker.<\/p>\n<p>The 25-year-old has joined the U&#8217;s from Dutch side, Heracles, where he has spent the past two seasons.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Read More<\/strong>: <a href=\"https:\/\/lastwordonsports.com\/football\/2025\/06\/30\/jamie-cumming-new-deal-oxford-united\/\" target=\"_self\">Jamie Cumming Signs New Deal With Championship Club\u00a0<\/a><\/p>\n<h2>Oxford United Make First Signing of the Summer<\/h2>\n<h3>Who Is Brian De Keersmaecker?<\/h3>\n<p>Born in Bornem, Belgium, Brian De Keersmaecker spent time at several youth academies before breaking through at Beerschot in 2019.<\/p>\n<p>The midfielder also spent time on loan at FC Eindhoven before joining the Eerste Divisie side on a permanent basis.<\/p>\n<p>He then joined Eredivisie side Heracles in 2023 and has since scored seven goals and added six assists from 70 appearances.<\/p>\n<p>A tough-tackling midfielder, De Keersmaecker is know for getting stuck in but also helping his side up the pitch.<\/p>\n<p>The Heracles captain was linked with a move to Danish side FC Midtjylland in January but a move was blocked with the condition of a departure this summer.<\/p>\n<h3>What Was Said<\/h3>\n<p><a  href=\"https:\/\/www.oufc.co.uk\/news\/brian-de-keersmaecker-signs-oxford-united\" target=\"_blank\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Speaking after signing, he said:<\/a> \u201cI\u2019ve shown at previous clubs that I can be a very important player. It is my aim that I can do the same here at Oxford United and be even better than before.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThere have been a lot of conversations with the people at the club. I spoke to the head coach several times and he gave me a good feeling that I am going to be important here.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThis is a big step in my own self development. I\u2019m ready for this challenge, to move to a new city, and perform in such a competitive league.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cAs a player, I\u2019m very aggressive. As soon as we lose the ball, I want to get it back as quickly as possible. You will always see me giving 100 percent for the cause.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cI will do everything I can to bring more success to this Club, and I can\u2019t wait to get started.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Head Coach, Gary Rowett, said: \u201cBrian was a player who was brought to my attention very early on when I joined the club.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWe had the chance to watch Brian play in person last season and you could see his attributes immediately. He can control a game of football with his quality in possession, and he also has an outstanding work rate off the ball.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cHe is a fantastic addition to the group.
