The news comes just three days before pre-season, and the first friendly with Peterborough United later that week. With a gruelling Championship campaign on the horizon, new coaches and players will certainly be a priority.

Potential New Managers For Leicester City After ‘Sudden’ Exit

Where Does This Leave Leicester City

As mentioned previously, pre-season will begin this Monday. This will still be in place, despite the departure, and the first-team coaching staff will oversee the plans until a new manager is installed. First team coach and club legend Andy King could be an option to take the reins in the meantime.

Read More: Leicester City Expected to Make Managerial Change With Potential Target Hinted At

John Percy has also reported that Sean Dyche will not be the new manager. This comes despite links between the two, and a relationship between him and the club’s director of football, Jon Rudkin.

Percy also adds that Sheffield Wednesday’s Danny Rohl will emerge as a possible target. Despite his compensation, the coach who came through at Bayern Munich and the German National Team will be an appealing option.

Options for the New Leicester Manager

According to betting odds, Dyche was the favourite just yesterday. This comes as no surprise given his pragmatism and experience within both the second and first tiers of English football.

Rohl is next in the running as he is likely to depart from Sheffield Wednesday. His more attractive style of football, moulded in Germany and success in keeping Wednesday up are all factors for this. For many fans, he would be the preferred option, especially when thinking long-term, and who can bring the club back to being a steady Premier League club.

Fellow Championship manager last season, Michael Carrick, is also an option. The Englishman boasts an attractive resume after three consecutive top ten finishes. Although his stint at Riverside did come to an end this summer, there are many positives to take from his time in charge. Similar to former Foxes manager Enzo Maresca, Carrick enjoys possession as his side has ranked inside the top eight for possession totals in all three seasons.

When looking at options below the top three, there is also Gary O’Neil. The 42-year-old’s departure from Wolves came in December of last season, following poor form that left them in the relegation zone. Positives to take from his time in management are his back-to-back finishes in 15th and 14th with Bournemouth and Wolves, respectively.

Liam Rosenior of Strasbourg and David Wagner, formerly of Norwich City, round out the top 6 favourites. Both spent time in the Championship recently, and competed with Maresca’s foxes almost two years ago. Both options have experience in Europe’s top five leagues, with Strasbourg and Schalke, respectively.

Following a dismal campaign with Leicester City, Ruud Van Nistelrooy has officially been sacked.
