The summer transfer window has well and truly kicked off, as we are now a week into it after a six-day break following on from the Club World Cup’s mini-window. Rumours are circulating as the big teams look to strengthen their squads before the start of the new season; Chelsea and Manchester United are now considering a swap deal for Alejandro Garnacho and Christopher Nkunku.<\/p>\n
Matt Law, of the Telegraph, has revealed<\/a> that both Manchester United and Chelsea now “weigh up” the pros and cons of deals that would see Garnacho and Nkunku go opposite ways. Reportedly, both players want to leave their clubs. The Red Devils want to sell Garnacho, and he would prefer to stay in England; the Argentinian is expected to “jump at the chance to join Chelsea”. It remains to be seen whether both deals are likely to happen, neither, or just one.<\/p>\n Both clubs are getting players who had a lot of success one or two seasons ago, but have had a slight drop-off since. Nkunku was the Bundesliga’s top goalscorer in 2022\/23 but has been plagued by injuries at Chelsea, whilst Garnacho has had off-the-field issues with managers, leading to less gametime and him being called “disrespectful”.\u00a0<\/a><\/p>\n For United, this transfer would make sense, as they currently target reinforcements for their forward line. After scoring the fifth-fewest goals in the division last season, they have already recruited Matheus Cunha<\/a> for some extra creativity and goal threat. They have also targeted strikers like Viktor Gyokeres,<\/a> and a more support-like player in Bryan Mbeumo<\/a>.
