It also appears the 29-year-old will be left out of City’s squad for the upcoming Club World Cup.

The England manager was speaking at a press conference before England’s World Cup qualifier against Andora when he made it clear that Grealish needs to play consistently if he wants to be in his plans for the 2026 World Cup: “He needs to make himself available by playing. I think it’s one of his key strengths. To go every three days and get better and better with every minute that he has in his legs. That’s what is missing, nothing else.

“I love Jack for his personality and of course his talent. He is a very unique player who can handle big pressure on the field. He is never shy of pressure. It’s the opposite.

“He grows in big matches, but he’s a player who needs minutes and minutes and minutes and simply does not get them for a very long time. Nothing has changed.”

Grealish’s Journey Since Joining City

Grealish moved to the Etihad in 2021, joining from Aston Villa for a then-British record fee of £100 million. Since then, he’s had plenty of high points, making 157 appearances, scoring 17 goals and assisting 23. It’s been a memorable move for the England international, winning three Premier League titles and the historic 2023 Champions League among his extensive honours.

On his day, Grealish is mercurial and can change a game in seconds. He’s brilliant with the ball at his feet and is capable of gliding past his opponents with ease. Whether floating in from the left-hand side or playing in the number 10 role, he’s a valuable asset.

If the Birmingham-born fighter can establish himself as a regular starter under Guardiola again, his inclusion in the England squad can only be a positive.

Manchester City endured a frustrating season, winning only the Community Shield.
