Both teams come into the game in relatively good form, but the Cityzens will be the favourites given their superior position in the Premier League table and their previous experience in major finals. For Palace, Saturday’s game represents an opportunity for the club to win their first piece of silverware since 1994. For City, winning the FA Cup is their only hope of success amidst an unusually barren season.

Manchester City Predicted Lineup vs Crystal Palace

How Manchester City Have Lined Up Recently

Ederson retained his place in goal against Southampton, picking up his ninth league clean sheet of the season in the process. Pep Guardiola made major changes in defence last time out, something he has not done much recently. Ruben Dias and Josko Gvardiol retained their spots in the backline, but the Croat was moved to left-back.

This was to accommodate for the inclusion of Swiss international centre-back Manuel Akanji who was starting his first game since mid-February. Rico Lewis started at right-back as Matheus Nunes and Nico O’Reilly dropped to the bench.

Read More: ‘Opening Bid’ in the ‘Coming Weeks’: Manchester City Set to Accelerate Pursuit for Midfield Target

Bernardo Silva and Matteo Kovacic retained their spots in the side as City’s deep-lying midfielders and Kevin De Bruyne started in a more advanced midfield role, though he was not as far forward as he was against Wolverhampton Wanderers.

There were three changes along the frontline as Ilkay Gundogan, who played in midfield against Wolves, Omar Marmoush and Jeremy Doku were all benched.

In their places, three boyhood City fans came into the team. City Football Academy graduates James McAtee and Phil Foden started on the right and left wings respectively, the latter starting a game for the first time since the Manchester Derby. Erling Haaland returned to the starting lineup against Wolves after over a month out injured.

Manchester City’s Recent Form and Tactics

City’s result against Southampton was by far their most disappointing since the March international break. The Citizens are still undefeated since the resumption of club football, but only picking up one point and failing to score a goal against one of the worst sides in Premier League history is unacceptable when City have such immense quality in the squad.

Fans greatly criticised Guardiola for playing none of Doku, Marmoush or Savinho, who have been City’s most creative players in recent weeks. The inclusion of both Foden and McAtee on the wings made the team far too narrow and they only registered one shot on target in the first half.

Read More: Manchester City Reach ‘Agreement’ To Sign German International

The reintroduction of Erling Haaland also saw the Catalan change his tactical system. Although Omar Marmoush, a natural striker, had been starting regularly in Haaland’s absence, the Egyptian was largely cutting inside from the wings as City deployed a false nine system in which De Bruyne and Gundogan were often the most advanced central players.

The Citizens reverted back to their more traditional 4-3-3 system with Haaland as a traditional focal point.

Manchester City Injuries to Consider

There were no major injury updates delivered by Guardiola in his pre-match news conference.

When asked about Rodri, who had previously spoken about trying to make a comeback in time for the FA Cup final, the City manager said that the Spaniard’s condition was improving, though he would not be ready for Saturday’s game. Guardiola is keen to not rush the Ballon d’Or winner back into action which could lead to him facing other injury setbacks.

Read More: Manchester City Ready to Battle Premier League Rivals for ‘Exceptional’ Brazilian Defender

John Stones, Nathan Ake and Oscar Bobb are all set to remain sidelined for the final after Guardiola described the rest of the injury situation as ‘the same as last week.’

This should still leave City with a plentiful number of options heading into Saturday’s game as January signings Abdukodir Khusanov, Vitor Reis and Claudio Echeverri were not even named in the matchday squad to face the Saints.

Manchester City Predicted Lineup Vs Crystal Palace

GK: Ederson

RB: Matheus Nunes

CB: Ruben Dias

CB: Josko Gvardiol

LB: Nico O’Reilly

CM: Ilkay Gundogan

CM: Matteo Kovacic

CM: Kevin De Bruyne

RW: Bernardo Silva

LW: Jeremy Doku

ST: Erling Haaland

Here is our Manchester City predicted lineup for the FA Cup final, in which they face Crystal Palace.
