{"id":654374,"date":"2025-05-04T00:00:00","date_gmt":"2025-05-04T04:00:00","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/lastwordonsports.com\/football\/?p=654374"},"modified":"2025-05-03T10:14:26","modified_gmt":"2025-05-03T14:14:26","slug":"three-talking-points-oxford-united-draw-swansea","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/lastwordonsports.com\/football\/2025\/05\/04\/three-talking-points-oxford-united-draw-swansea\/","title":{"rendered":"Three Talking Points as Oxford United Draw at Swansea"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><a href=\"https:\/\/lastwordonsports.com\/football\/2025\/05\/02\/team-news-form-prediction-oxford-united-travel-swansea\/\" target=\"_self\">Oxford United<\/a> ended their first season in the Championship in 25 years with an entertaining 3-3 draw on the road at <a  href=\"https:\/\/x.com\/OUFCOfficial\/status\/1918658571698315554?t=fzO4FbThVDf4HODDu9JYDA&amp;s=19\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Swansea<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>The U&#8217;s came from behind three times against the Welsh side and ended the campaign in 17th position.<\/p>\n<p>Here are three talking points from the game.<\/p>\n<h2>Oxford United Draw at Swansea<\/h2>\n<h3>Starting Line-Up<\/h3>\n<p>Many fans speculated as to how Gary Rowett would select his side for the trip to Wales after the U&#8217;s secured their second-tier status with a win over Sunderland last time out.<\/p>\n<p>Matt Ingram was handed his first Championship start between the sticks in place of Jamie Cumming, while Elliott Moore replaced Ben Nelson in defence after the Leicester loanee picked up an injury in the warm-up.<\/p>\n<p>Will Vaulks missed the trip after an ankle operation and there were also starts for Stan Mills on the wing and Ole Romeny up top in place of Swansea-born Mark Harris.<\/p>\n<p>There was also a first Championship appearance of the season for Marselino Ferdinan, who replaced his Indonesian teammate Romeny with 15 minutes remaining.<\/p>\n<h3>Character to Come From Behind Three Times<\/h3>\n<p>Oxford fans may have been on the beach but on the pitch, the players certainly weren&#8217;t, despite already being safe from the drop.<\/p>\n<p>The U&#8217;s could have easily dropped their heads having fallen behind on three occasions but each time, the players regrouped and found themselves a deserved equaliser.<\/p>\n<h3>Set-Piece Goals<\/h3>\n<p>It&#8217;s been a common theme in recent weeks but once again, Oxford were reliant on scoring goals from set pieces.<\/p>\n<p>The first came from a deep free-kick which wasn&#8217;t properly cleared by the Swans defence, before Greg Leigh rifled home a volley from a tight angle.<\/p>\n<p>After the restart, an Oxford corner was nodded back in by Mills before Leigh headed it back across goal for Michal Helik to poke home his fifth goal of the campaign.<\/p>\n<p>While the third goal didn&#8217;t come from a set piece, it did come from a Swansea error as Tyler Goodrham picked up a loose ball before finding Przemyslaw Placheta to fire home against his former club.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Oxford United ended their first season in the Championship in 25 years with an entertaining 3-3 draw on the road at Swansea.
