In a Championship version of Shilton versus Maradona, Cameron Brannagan inadvertently looped the ball high towards Jamie Cumming, who just seemed to stop and not challenge the Coventry forward from a free header.

And having come from behind twice, Rowett will bemoan the third which was similar to the first, with a cross not dealt with before being fired home.

Looked More of a Goal Threat

However, unlike those previous six league games, Oxford did look more of a threat in front of goal.

Przemyslaw Placheta, as he often does, cut inside but forced the goalkeeper into a save in what was Oxford’s best chance in the opening 45.

After the break, the U’s launched a counter and Placheta once again cut inside but opted to square the ball to Ole Romeny to slot home his first Oxford goal.

Shortly after, a confident Romeny broke clear but saw his one-on-one effort tipped wide from an acute angle. However, Elliott Moore nodded home a second equaliser from the resulting corner.

Ole Romeny

We’ve already touched on the two chances for Romeny but his all-round play was arguably his best yet in a yellow shirt.

He was selected in behind Mark Harris in the ten role and linked the play well when he was presented the opportunity to do so.

His versatility is clearly a key trait for Oxford, particularly given the injury to Tom Bradshaw up top, so let’s hope he can take confidence from his goal and performance and build on that.

Oxford United saw their winless run extended to seven games after a 3-2 defeat at home against Coventry.
