Norwich City have completed the signing of central defender Ruairi McConville from Premier League side Brighton & Hove Albion. The 19-year-old centre-back has signed a five-and-a-half-year contract for a reported fee<\/a> of \u00a31 million which could rise to around \u00a32.75 million. The Northern Ireland international will wear the number 15. This is expected to allow Norwich defender Brad Hills to depart the club on loan, with Stockport being the favourites.<\/p>\n

He becomes Norwich’s fifth signing of the window after the Canaries signed Lewis Dobbin on loan from Aston Villa, Matej Jurasek on a permanent from Slavia Prague, Anis Ben Slimane on a permanent after he spent the first half of the season on loan with the Canaries and Alan Domernacki from Dundee United.<\/p>\n

McConville spent time in his youth at Linfield, before joining Brighton in 2021. The defender recently made his senior debut for the Seagulls, featuring from the bench against Norwich in the Emirates FA Cup.<\/p>\n

Before that, he made his senior international debut for Northern Ireland in November 2024, featuring in a UEFA Nations League victory over Belarus.<\/p>\n

Reactions To the Move<\/h3>\n

Joining the club, McConville said: “I’m very excited. I feel it’s the right move for me at the right time. I’m buzzing to get started and to get in and meet everyone.<\/p>\n

“After speaking with Johannes (Hoff Thorup) and seeing how he plays, we’re both ambitious and have the same goals. I’m excited to work with him and hopefully we can get back in to the Premier League.”<\/p>\n

Sporting director Ben Knapper added: “We are delighted to welcome Ruairi and his family to Norwich City.<\/p>\n

“He is an extremely impressive young man with great leadership potential, and culturally we feel he will fit in very well with what we are building here.<\/p>\n
