Romano revealed that City are “reluctant” to release McAtee and feels that he could become a starter.<\/p>\n

However, the attacking-midfielder might believe that he has not had the chance to prove himself. McAtee made his Premier League debut in 2021 but had not made double-digit appearances for his boyhood club before the start of this campaign, spending two seasons on loan at Sheffield United.<\/p>\n

There is an array of academy players who have left the club and improved their standing in the game. Cole Palmer is the most prominent player from the same youth squad as McAtee to be plying his trade in the Premier League. But Rom\u00e9o Lavia, Liam Delap, and Morgan Rogers also add to a long list of players whose choice of the exit door from the Etihad Stadium was the right one for their careers.<\/p>\n

Some of those players, such as Jadon Sancho and Jamie Gittens, have also excelled in the Bundesliga. McAtee might be smart to see if a spell in Germany could build on his high reputation in the academy.<\/p>\n

Bayer Leverkusen Looking at Reinforcements<\/strong><\/h3>\n

This time, the destination could be Bayer Leverkusen as opposed to Borussia Dortmund.<\/p>\n

Romano understands that the team’s manager, Xabi Alonso, is a “huge fan” of McAtee and now would like to sign him as an extra option in a squad that is fighting for trophies on three fronts once again.<\/p>\n

The reigning Bundesliga champions are only six points behind Bayern Munich, whom they have beaten in the Round of 16 in the DFB-Pokal. Despite a 2-1 defeat to Atl\u00e9tico Madrid, Die Werkself are also in the top eight of the UEFA Champions League group and should move on to the next round.<\/p>\n

Though Leverkusen had been able to strengthen their squad in the summer window<\/a>, the attack is a little light of options.
