Despite this, <\/span>Sunday’s<\/span> victory over the Saints <\/span>proceeded somewhat of a controversy<\/span>. In the first half, <\/span>the<\/span> overall quality of <\/span>Celtic’s<\/span> play <\/span>was substandard<\/span>.<\/span> The <\/span>pace of the game<\/span> was slow, with the passing often sideways and backward. <\/span>It was met<\/span> with audible groans from much of the home support.<\/span><\/p>\n

This<\/span> led to<\/span> Brendan Rodgers calling out the support<\/span><\/a> on the matter <\/span>saying: <\/span>“T<\/span>he challenge here itself is that I <\/span>have <\/span>a big<\/span> respect for<\/span> this group of players.<\/span> Especially on a day like today, because when it was 0-0 for the first 20 minutes, and when <\/span>we\u2019d<\/span> make a backward <\/span>pass<\/span> the crowd would be onto the team.<\/span><\/p>\n

That cannot happen. One, if you know about football, and <\/span>two,<\/span> if you can understand it when teams come here, <\/span>they\u2019re<\/span> going to<\/span> make it <\/span>really<\/span> difficult. <\/span>You <\/span>can\u2019t<\/span> turn up every <\/span>single<\/span> week and be <\/span>three<\/span>,<\/span> four<\/span> up<\/span> in 20 minutes.<\/span> Teams are well <\/span>organised<\/span>, teams<\/span> are well set up<\/span>, <\/span>you<\/span> have to work the game.<\/span><\/p>\n

So <\/span>sometimes<\/span> you have to play a backward pass to change the point of attack. We make a backward pass, and then we go to the players, and <\/span>that\u2019s<\/span> why I was proud of the players. \u00a0I <\/span>don\u2019t<\/span> need the cheers when <\/span>it\u2019s<\/span> 3-<\/span>0,<\/span> and the support when <\/span>it\u2019s<\/span> 3 or 4-0, or 5-0. This team needs it<\/span>.”<\/span><\/p>\n

You can understand him sticking up for his players, but there <\/span>needs to be common sense as well<\/span>.<\/span> It<\/span> was a poor performance <\/span>in the first half, and <\/span>those who are paying upwards of \u00a3500 <\/span>for<\/span> a season ticket<\/span>, <\/span>should be allowed to voice their displeasure.<\/span><\/p>\n
