In addition, the Lancashire side headed into the game as the division’s top scorers, but Buckingham’s side held them to a goalless draw.

As a result, Oxford remain unbeaten at home and that’s a good place to be after four league games.

Away Form

Having lost by a one goal margin in away games at Coventry, Blackburn and Bristol City, the U’s knew they needed to then their fortunes around on the road.

Despite the defeats, the performances were all pleasing, with a mistake costing the points at Coventry before losing their lead at Ewood Park and Ashton Gate, respectively.

Like against Burnley, Oxford were tasked with a difficult trip to recently-relegated Luton. Unfortunately for the U’s, two defensive errors gifted the Hatters a two-goal lead but Tyler Goodrham netted a goal just before the break.

Oxford deservedly found an equaliser after the restart and could have left Kenilworth Road with all three points, particularly when the hosts were reduced to ten men.

Despite that, it was a good first point on the road, and that was followed up by another statement at Portsmouth.

Jamie Cumming made a second-minute penalty save but former U’s winger Josh Murphy assisted a Pompey opener after the restart.

However, Oxford regrouped and substitute Louie Sibley netted a deserved leveller, despite the performance not being at the same level as recent weeks.

Three wins, three draws and three defeats make for good reading for Oxford, who have adapted to life in the Championship relatively well.

Home form has been key, and if the U’s are able to pick up points on their travels then there should be little threat of relegation.

As we enter the international break, we take a look back at some of the recent Championship results for Oxford United.
