Here are three talking points from the game.

Oxford United Draw Against Burnley

Clean Sheet

With a change in the back four, it was pleasing to see the U’s keep another clean sheet. Buckingham’s side now have four shutouts from five games in all competitions at Grenoble Road.

But this one came with changes. Ben Nelson was handed his Oxford debut alongside skipper Elliott Moore in the centre of defence with Ciaron Brown moving to left-back. Peter Kioso kept his role on the right.

The addition of Brown at full-back gave additional defensive stability, with Greg Leigh likely to be offering more in an attacking capacity.

The backline stayed resolute and Will Vaulks provided strength infront.

First Game Without a Goal

While the backline looked solid, the U’s did lack some attacking impetus and struggled to create too many attempts on goal, with just three compared to Burnley’s 14.

However, it wasn’t just for lack of chances, but lack of possession. Buckingham’s side had just 30 per cent of the ball with Burnley enjoying large spells in possession, which forced Oxford deeper and reduced chances when in transition.

Oxford United Discipline

With all of that in mind, it was another disciplined display from Oxford United against a strong Burnley side.

Defensive solidity and balanced play in the middle of park helped ensure the clean sheet, and limit the visitors to just one shot on target.

Oxford were happy for the opposition to have the ball and make the passes ultimately because nothing much came of it.

Onto the next one as the U’s search for their first away point of the season.

Oxford United have lost their 100 per cent winning home record but picked up a well-earned point with a goalless draw against Burnley.
