Jhon Duran Happy to Stay at Aston Villa After Failed Summer Transfer<\/h2>\n

‘He Thinks He is Better Than Ollie Watkins’<\/h3>\n

Monchi, Aston Villa’s president of football operations, revealed to The Athletic<\/a> that “no fewer than 40 clubs” are interested in their Colombian striker. However, he continued: “Did Duran want to leave the club? Yes. That is normal because he wants to play. But now we spoke with him yesterday and he is happy”.<\/p>\n

Duran looks set to stay at Villa for the long-term, and all parties are excited about it. Monchi revealed that Unai Emery is “very confident” in the youngster’s abilities, and believes that “he can become one of the best strikers in the world” in the next year. The club appear very happy with the “rising star”<\/a>, whilst the player himself is so confident in his abilities that “he thinks he is better than [Ollie] Watkins”.<\/p>\n

Why Is Jhon Duran So Crucial to Emery\u2019s Project?<\/h3>\n

Duran is an incredible player and very important to Emery’s project at Villa Park. At just 20-years-old, he scored an impressive eight goals last season and already has two in the Premier League this campaign. He will undoubtedly become a great player, and would do so at any side.<\/p>\n

However, the striker will particularly thrive at his current side and is very valued. He provides important backup to Watkins, who scored 27 last season and was pivotal to his team’s success. Mostly appearing off the bench this season and last season, he can use his explosivity to make an instant impact against tired defences, furthering his development and already winning his side four points in 2024\/25.<\/p>\n

Most importantly, Watkins could very well depart at the end of this season. Duran is the perfect replacement, and a very economical one.
