Under new manager Lopetegui, <\/span>who is<\/span> known for liking a big squad, West Ham have added Guido Rodr\u00edguez to their ranks, a World Cup winner and two-time Copa America champion with Argentina. Rodr\u00edguez joins the Hammers from Real Betis on a two-year contract as a free transfer. Betis, where he spent four and a half seasons, finished seventh place last season. <\/span><\/p>\n

In 2023\/24, he played 29 matches in all competitions for the Seville-based club, with five of those appearances coming in the UEFA Europa League. Rodr\u00edguez played a total of 173 <\/span>matches<\/span> for \u2018Los Verdiblancos\u2019, scoring on nine occasions. The signing will reunite him with Edson \u00c1lvarez, who played alongside him at Club Am\u00e9rica in Mexico.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

Rodr\u00edguez has been capped by World Cup champions Argentina 30 times, scoring once. He was part of the side that won and retained the Copa America this summer in the United States, <\/span>albeit,<\/span> he failed to make a start in the tournament, only coming on as a substitute against Peru. <\/span><\/p>\n

The defensive midfielder <\/span>who<\/span> won Liga MX at Club Am\u00e9rica alongside <\/span>\u00c1lvarez<\/span> went on to sign for Real Betis for \u20ac4 million. <\/span>It was during this spell that<\/span> the 30-year-old won the Copa del Rey under the management of Chilean former West Ham manager Manuel Pellegrini, winning the club’s fourth major honour in their <\/span>history,<\/span> and first since 2005.<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

Hammers Active in Summer Transfer Window<\/span><\/h3>\n

Lopetegui, evident from his ambitions at Wolves two seasons prior, prefers a large squad to <\/span>that of<\/span> his predecessor <\/span>David<\/span> Moyes. Due to this, the Hammers have been very active in the transfer window, with West Ham spending more than <\/span>\u00a3100 million<\/span>\u00a0so far<\/span> this summer following the Spaniard\u2019s appointment. <\/span>This<\/span> includes Lopetegui signing and reuniting with Max Kilman<\/a> from Wolves. <\/span><\/p>\n

Their defence <\/span>is also rumoured<\/span> to <\/span>be strengthened<\/span> with the club enquiring about free agent Mats Hummels<\/a>, who left Borussia Dortmund this summer. His signing could be crucial for Lopetegui’s side <\/span>with<\/span> Hummels winning the Bundesliga five times. <\/span>This<\/span> comes alongside rumours of Kurt Zouma <\/span>being forced<\/span> out of the club.<\/span><\/p>\n

On top of this, West Ham <\/span>have<\/span> also strengthened <\/span>their<\/span> attacking options.<\/span> Brazilian winger Luis Guilherme<\/a> was signed by the Hammers from Brazilian Serie A champions Palmeiras for \u20ac23 million.<\/span> He joins Crysencio Summerville<\/a>, who joined on a five-year contract for around \u20ac29 million.
