The Athletic’s Adam Leventhal has reported<\/a> that talks between club and player have reached an advanced stage, with the fee for the defender expected to be in the region of \u00a317 million and a six-year deal believed to be the rumoured contract length.<\/p>\n

Fabrizio Romano then followed up<\/a> with an update of his own shortly after, saying a team-to-team agreement on all the specifics is all that’s left to be done before this deal is likely given the “here we go”.<\/p>\n

This news follows the Athletic’s revelation last week<\/a> that the Blues had officially opened talks for the defender after his impressive showings for Boca, despite him only debuting for them in June 2023. However, his performances in the past year have been enough for Chelsea that they think he can be the next defender to lead their backline for the next half a decade.<\/p>\n

The expectation is that Anselmino, who can also play in midfield, will move on loan to Strasbourg in France upon his arrival at Chelsea, a move that makes sense with Levi Colwill, Axel Disasi, Benoit Badiashile, Wesley Fofana and new signing Tosin Adarabioyo all expected to be ahead of the Argentine in the central defender pecking order for the 2024\/25 campaign.<\/p>\n
