Chelsea have opened talks with Jonathan David for a potential move this Summer. The Canadian\u00a0striker’s\u00a0contract expires in June 2025, so he could be available for a cut price. However, plenty of clubs are also interested\u00a0and\u00a0the race could be open.<\/span><\/p>\n

David Ornstein<\/span><\/a>\u00a0reports that Chelsea have held talks with representatives of\u00a0David,\u00a0ahead of a potential Summer move.\u00a0No formal approach has\u00a0been made\u00a0just\u00a0yet, but there are\u00a0“good relations”\u00a0between both clubs\u00a0so\u00a0a deal is\u00a0very\u00a0possible.\u00a0The Lille president had previously confirmed this by saying that the player could\u00a0“leave the club this Summer”\u00a0and that he has been given an\u00a0“exit voucher”\u00a0due to his current contract situation.\u00a0With a deal expiring in June 2025, the selling club may\u00a0be forced\u00a0to sell for a cut price\u00a0as well.<\/span><\/p>\n

Chelsea Continue to Chase New Attackers<\/span><\/h3>\n

This\u00a0is far from the first striker Chelsea have contacted over a potential transfer this Summer.\u00a0The London club have recently opened talks with\u00a0<\/span>Jhon Duran<\/span><\/a>\u00a0and\u00a0<\/span>Samu Omorodian<\/span><\/a>\u00a0as well.\u00a0<\/span>It\u00a0is believed<\/span><\/a>\u00a0that they want to introduce two new attackers for next season, including\u00a0“at least one more striker and one more winger”.\u00a0With that in mind, it would be realistic to assume that only one of the three striker targets completes a move.<\/span><\/p>\n

Considering the previous two options, Atletico Madrid have already rejected a\u00a0<\/span>“\u20ac40m package”<\/span><\/a>\u00a0for Omorodion,\u00a0whilst Villa remains adamant on a\u00a0<\/span>player exchange<\/span><\/a>\u00a0for a deal for Duran to materialize. As such, it may be possible\u00a0that the Blues turn to Ligue 1 instead to explore a transfer for David – such a deal could be much easier to\u00a0finalise,\u00a0and potentially much cheaper given the\u00a0player’s\u00a0contract situation.<\/span><\/p>\n

David’s\u00a0Search for a New Club<\/span><\/h3>\n

Since the Summer of 2022, David has reportedly been\u00a0<\/span>“on the market”<\/span><\/a>\u00a0<\/span>in search of<\/span>\u00a0a new club.\u00a0Many European outlets have been linked with the 24-year-old\u00a0since then, including\u00a0<\/span>Arsenal<\/span><\/a>,\u00a0<\/span>RB Leipzig<\/span><\/a>,\u00a0<\/span>Barcelona<\/span><\/a>\u00a0and\u00a0<\/span>AC Milan<\/span><\/a>.\u00a0Despite that, a move has continuously failed to materialize.<\/span><\/p>\n

It is tough to doubt the\u00a0player’s\u00a0experience\u00a0though; he has broken records during his time at Lille, becoming the\u00a0club’s leading goal-scorer in the entire Ligue 1 era with 84 goals.\u00a0Last season, he scored an impressive 26 in 47 games across all competitions, in addition to\u00a07 assists.\u00a0He is well regarded for his versatility up front, being able to play as a lone centre-forward or a second striker.
