Still had long been the bookmakers favourite for the vacant head coach role and also the preferred choice of those in charge at the Stadium of Light.<span class=\"Apple-converted-space\">\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p>However, reports this evening via Sky Sports and the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.sunderlandecho.com\/sport\/football\/sunderland-afc\/major-will-still-update-as-head-coach-search-takes-new-twist-4649861\" target=\"_blank\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Sunderland Echo<\/a> claim that Still will not be coming to England but will instead stay in France and take charge at RC Lens.<\/p>\n<blockquote class=\"twitter-tweet\" data-media-max-width=\"560\">\n<p dir=\"ltr\" lang=\"en\">BREAKING: Sunderland&#8217;s talks to make Will Still their new head coach are all but over \ud83d\udea8<\/p>\n<p>The Belgian had gone as far as to look into where he could live the North East at one point, but he has concerns over investment &amp; the make-up of staff. <a href=\"https:\/\/t.co\/JY6w4fnd2T\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">pic.twitter.com\/JY6w4fnd2T<\/a><\/p>\n<p>\u2014 Sky Sports News (@SkySportsNews) <a href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/SkySportsNews\/status\/1796597425437630592?ref_src=twsrc%5Etfw\" target=\"_blank\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">May 31, 2024<\/a><\/p><\/blockquote>\n<p><script async src=\"https:\/\/platform.twitter.com\/widgets.js\" charset=\"utf-8\"><\/script><\/p>\n<p>While it is understood that Still was on the brink of taking the job at Sunderland, concerns were raised over investment and staff. However, now that RC Lens have made their move, Still is likely to remain in France where his concerns will not be an issue.<\/p>\n<h3>Second Head Coach in Two Days to be Ruled Out<\/h3>\n<p>Prior to Will Still being ruled out, former Young Boys manager and Switzerland international <a href=\"https:\/\/lastwordonsports.com\/football\/2024\/05\/30\/sunderland-round-up-head-coach-latest\/\" target=\"_self\">Raphael Wicky<\/a> was reportedly close to being appointed according to the Italian news site <a href=\"https:\/\/www.calciomercato.it\/2024\/05\/30\/sunderland-accordo-raggiunto-con-wicky-i-dettagli-esclusivo\/\" target=\"_blank\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Calcio Mercato<\/a>. However, within an hour, these rumours came to a sudden halt.
