The Frenchman had last signed a new deal with the club in 2019, a five-year contract until 2024 with the option to trigger an extra one-year extension to 2025.

But United have no plans on triggering the option to activate that one-year extension and are expected to let the 28-year-old leave as a free agent in the summer by allowing him to run down his deal, as they did by offloading David de Gea in the summer. However, Ornstein adds that they could also sell him in the upcoming January transfer window if a suitable offer comes; any sale would open up a place to potentially strengthen their attack with a new signing.

Martial can also sign a pre-contract agreement with any club in January unless the Red Devils tie him down to a new deal or activate his one-year extension. At this point, it does not look like United want to prolong Martial’s stay at Old Trafford until 2025.

Martial Receives Criticism For Sloppy Performances

The French forward has had a poor start to the 2023/2024 season and has only been able to score two goals in 19 appearances, including only one goal in 13 Premier League appearances. He has earned a lot of criticism for his sloppy performances this season, with Roy Keane also taking a dig at him recently by hinting that the 28-year-old should ‘go down a few leagues’.

Martial arrived at Old Trafford in 2015 and became the most expensive teenager in world footballer for a whopping £36 million fee. He has since gone on to make 316 appearances for the Red Devils across all competitions, scoring 90 goals. But he has never been able to fulfil his utmost potential and even tried to leave the club a few times in the past, even spending the second half of the 2021/22 season on loan at Sevilla, and it appears that his journey with the Red Devils is set to end in 2024.

Watch: COMPLETELY BROKEN? – Here’s Why Manchester United are on Life Support

Manchester United have had a shaky start to the 2023/24 Premier League season, losing seven of their first 16 matches.
