This has been quite the week for Oxford United<\/a> with the club recording two massive wins, on and off the pitch.<\/p>\n

On Tuesday, the club was approved a leasehold on a site for a proposed new stadium while on Saturday, the U’s picked up another win to move up to second in League One.<\/p>\n

Oxfordshire County Council Approve Lease on Grounds for a New Stadium<\/h3>\n

Oxfordshire County Council has agreed to lease a piece of land just north of the city to Oxford United.<\/p>\n

The U’s are looking to build a new stadium and conference facilities at ‘the Triangle’ with the lease at the current site on Grenoble Road due to expire in 2026.<\/p>\n

At a cabinet meeting on Tuesday, councillors voted to approve the lease to the club.<\/p>\n

While the move is vitally important, it’s just another hurdle the club must overcome as they now require planning permission from Cherwell District Council.<\/p>\n

Councillor Susan Brown, leader of\u00a0Oxford\u00a0City Council, said<\/a>:\u00a0“Oxford\u00a0City Council are strong supporters of\u00a0Oxford\u00a0United\u00a0and their fans and have been\u00a0over many decades, including providing land for their training facilities at\u00a0Oxford\u00a0Sports Park.<\/p>\n

“We want what’s in the best interests of\u00a0Oxford\u00a0United\u00a0and the fans,\u00a0and so we’re delighted that\u00a0Oxfordshire\u00a0County\u00a0Council has agreed to\u00a0provide\u00a0the club land to build a new stadium.<\/p>\n

“If planning permission is granted, the stadium will not only provide the U’s with a new home, it will become a hub for sport, entertainment and tourism that will support jobs and\u00a0Oxfordshire’s economy.<\/p>\n

“With new training facilities and a new stadium secured, we hope Oxford United has the platform to thrive, grow and get back to the successes I remember growing up in Oxford in the 1980s.”<\/p>\n

U’s Move Up to Second With Win Over Exeter<\/h3>\n

Oxford recorded a second successive 3-0 win in the league as they found a way past Exeter City at Grenoble Road.<\/p>\n

Ruben Rodrigues netted his first U’s goal since his summer arrival before Cameron Brannagan netted two late goals with both coming from the penalty spot.<\/p>\n

Oxford ended the match with under 40 per cent possession but it showed another dimension of play, grinding out a result, being physical and defending in style.<\/p>\n
