{"id":620969,"date":"2023-01-08T15:47:13","date_gmt":"2023-01-08T20:47:13","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/lastwordonsports.com\/football\/?p=620969"},"modified":"2023-01-08T15:47:13","modified_gmt":"2023-01-08T20:47:13","slug":"oxford-united-weekly-transfer-rumours","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/lastwordonsports.com\/football\/2023\/01\/08\/oxford-united-weekly-transfer-rumours\/","title":{"rendered":"Oxford United Weekly Round-Up: One In, One Out and Transfer Rumours"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>The January transfer is well underway at <a href=\"https:\/\/lastwordonsports.com\/football\/2023\/01\/01\/oxford-united-ipswich-charlton-exeter\/\" target=\"_self\">Oxford United<\/a> and we have all the moves and rumours from the last seven days.<\/p>\n<h2>Oxford United Weekly Round-Up: January Transfer Window Well Underway<\/h2>\n<h3>U&#8217;s Target St Mirren Midfielder<\/h3>\n<p>The week began with Oxford United looking set to join the battle for St Mirren midfielder, Ethan Erhahon, <a href=\"https:\/\/www.scottishdailyexpress.co.uk\/sport\/football\/ethan-erhahon-st-mirren-transfer-28851483\" target=\"_blank\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">according to Scott Burns<\/a> for the Scottish Daily Express.<\/p>\n<p>League One rivals Forest Green Rovers have already seen a bid accepted for the 21-year-old but the midfielder is weighing up his options, with the U&#8217;s considering an offer.<\/p>\n<p>Oxford had previously shown interest in the then-20-year-old prior to the summer transfer window last year.<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"594\" height=\"396\" class=\"alignnone size-full wp-image-620978\" src=\"https:\/\/lastwordonsports.com\/football\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/4\/2023\/01\/gettyimages-1452527256-594x594-1.jpg\" alt=\"\" srcset=\"https:\/\/lastwordonsports.com\/football\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/4\/2023\/01\/gettyimages-1452527256-594x594-1.jpg 594w, https:\/\/lastwordonsports.com\/football\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/4\/2023\/01\/gettyimages-1452527256-594x594-1-300x200.jpg 300w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 594px) 100vw, 594px\" \/><\/p>\n<h3>Everton Striker Linked With Oxford United Move<\/h3>\n<p>The U&#8217;s were then linked with a move for Everton striker Tom Cannon, <a href=\"https:\/\/insidefutbol.com\/2023\/01\/03\/sheffield-wednesday-lead-oxford-united-in-striker-chase-but-must-convince-everton-on-key-aspect\/589673\/\" target=\"_blank\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">according to Alan Dixon<\/a>, but Sheffield Wednesday were leading the race.<\/p>\n<p>The 20-year-old has been in fine form for Everton&#8217;s U21 side and it looked as though it would lead to first-team football with the Toffees, but that appears not to be the case.<\/p>\n<p>If the U&#8217;s can convince the Everton hierarchy that he would get more game time at Grenoble Road then it could swing a move in their favour. as the club head into a first transfer window under new ownership.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/lastwordonsports.com\/football\/2022\/10\/02\/oxford-united-new-owners-charlton-athletic\/\" target=\"_self\">Indonesian investors Anindya Bakrie and Erick Thohir took a 51 per cent stake in the club in September<\/a> and appointed the former Inter Milan chief financial officer and Manchester United financial controller shortly after.<\/p>\n<p>Despite the change in personnel, Williams is wary when new owners splash the cash.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.oxfordmail.co.uk\/sport\/23225251.oxford-united-chief-executive-january-transfer-window\/\" target=\"_blank\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Speaking to the Oxford Mail,<\/a> he said: \u201cI\u2019m always really nervous about clubs making grand statements when a new owner comes in.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cSo to me, it is business as usual in the sense that we have we already discussed what we need to do and want to do in the January window.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThat need and want could evolve during the window.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThose discussions will happen on a daily basis, as to what we need to do.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Despite their somewhat underwhelming start to the new season, Williams believes that their ambitions to gain promotion remain the same.<\/p>\n<p>He added: \u201cGoing into the new year, the objective remains the same \u2013 we want to get promoted.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThat is the goal and we are pushing for that goal.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cOn the non-playing side, we\u2019ve been working really hard to get the business organised in a slightly different way, making sure we\u2019ve got the right people in the right place doing the right things at the right time with the right level of skill.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWe\u2019re going to make a few key appointments in the new year so hopefully that\u2019ll be good news on the non-playing side, which could really help to drive the business forward and the club forward on the playing side as well.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWe need to look into making some key appointments in the commercial side of the business, which is really going to drive our fan engagement and revenues, to then invest on the pitch.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cHopefully there\u2019ll be some good news there early in the new year.\u201d<\/p>\n<h3>Oxford United &#8216;Keen&#8217; on Sheffield United Forward<\/h3>\n<p>Sheffield United have recalled striker Will Osula from his loan spell with Derby County but are looking to find him a new club before the January transfer window closes.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/The_Bladesman\/status\/1610714992529096705?s=19\" target=\"_blank\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Alan Nixon suggests<\/a> that Oxford and Burton Albion are both keen on the 19-year-old, who scored five goals in 21 appearances for the Rams.<\/p>\n<p>Three of those goals have come in the FA Cup where the Dane scored a brace in a 2-2 draw against Torquay before netting in the replay at Pride Park.<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"594\" height=\"396\" class=\"alignnone size-full wp-image-620979\" src=\"https:\/\/lastwordonsports.com\/football\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/4\/2023\/01\/gettyimages-1346413088-594x594-1.jpg\" alt=\"\" srcset=\"https:\/\/lastwordonsports.com\/football\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/4\/2023\/01\/gettyimages-1346413088-594x594-1.jpg 594w, https:\/\/lastwordonsports.com\/football\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/4\/2023\/01\/gettyimages-1346413088-594x594-1-300x200.jpg 300w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 594px) 100vw, 594px\" \/><\/p>\n<h3>Midfielder Joins Solihull Moors<\/h3>\n<p>Oxford midfielder Oisin Smyth has joined National League side Solihull Moors on loan until the end of the season.<\/p>\n<p>The 22-year-old, who joined the U&#8217;s last January, has managed just two appearances for the club, so game time is important in his development.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.oufc.co.uk\/news\/2023\/january\/oisin-smyth-joins-solihull\/\" target=\"_blank\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Speaking to the club&#8217;s official website<\/a>, Karl Robinson said: \u201cWe hope it works for all parties.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;Oisin has had to be patient but there is a lot of competition and Lewis Bate, Cameron Brannagan and Marcus McGuane have made it hard for him to get games.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;We know Solihull are a good setup, they will look after him and he will hopefully get games and plenty of experience there.\u201d<\/p>\n<h3>Defender on Oxford Radar<\/h3>\n<p>Blackburn Rovers defender Tayo Edun is said to be attracting interest from several League One clubs, including Oxford.<\/p>\n<p>This comes from <a href=\"https:\/\/www.examinerlive.co.uk\/sport\/football\/news\/sheffield-wednesday-transfer-blackburn-rovers-25899504\" target=\"_blank\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Yorkshire Live<\/a> who claim that Sheffield Wednesday, along with Charlton Athletic, MK Dons and Lincoln City are all vying for his signature this month.<\/p>\n<p>The left-back, who can also play in central midfield, is being made available for loan by Rovers as the 24-year-old has managed just eight Championship appearances this season.<\/p>\n<h3>&#8216;We Do Know About Macauley and Connor&#8217;<\/h3>\n<p>In the last week, Connor Wickham and Macauley Bonne have been released by Forest Green and Queens Park Rangers respectively, with Robinson confirming one is of interest.<\/p>\n<p>Former Sunderland and Crystal Palace striker Wickham scored nine times from 20 appearances for Forest Green, while Bonne found the net three times in 44 outings, although 34 of those came as a substitute. He also hit 12 in 46 while on loan at Ipswich Town last season.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.oxfordmail.co.uk\/sport\/23231644.oxford-united-boss-karl-robinson-macauley-bonne-connor-wickham\/\" target=\"_blank\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Speaking to the Oxford Mail<\/a>, the Oxford boss said: \u201cWe just need a striker to score goals.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWe have an idea \u2013 we do know about Macauley and Connor.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cHave they been spoken about here?
