Manchester United<\/a> have triggered one-year contract extensions of four first-team players, confirms The Athletic<\/a>. The likes of Marcus Rashfrod, Diogo Dalot, Luke Shaw and Fred have all had their stays at Old Trafford extended till at least 2024.<\/p>\n

Erik ten Hag is clearly a fan of the players who had their contracts extended for another year, which is why he ordered the club to keep them for more time. This also buys the club a little bit of extra time to finalize long-term deals with these first-team stars. If the Red Devils hadn’t activated these one-year renewals, the players would’ve been free to talk to other clubs and signed pre-contract agreements with them in January.<\/p>\n

Because of the Qatar World Cup, United were unable to sit down with the likes of Rashford and Dalot to extend their deals. But they’re now planning to accelerate those talks with the competition in the rearview. They are prioritizing the prospect of tying the English forward to a new deal after his impressive return to form this season and watching him impress at the World Cup – where he scored three goals for England.<\/p>\n

United want to hand Rashford – who was called an ‘extraordinary human being’ by Oscar-winning actress Kate Winslet<\/a> recently – a new long-term deal after watching him reject a move away from the club<\/a> in the summer. The Manchester giants are also planning to give fresh terms to Dalot and Shaw, as well as tying the down to long-term deals. They don’t have any plans on extending Fred’s deal beyond 2024 for the time being.<\/p>\n

Another Man United player whose contract is expiring soon is their experienced no.1, David de Gea. The Spaniard’s current deal is set to expire at the end of the season and the club are continuing talks with him over a fresh deal rather than giving a one-year extension to his current contract, which sees him earning \u00a3375,000-a-week wages.<\/p>\n

Ten Hag doesn’t want his goalkeeper to be on such high wages and the Red Devils are trying to convince him to take a considerable pay cut if the two parties are to extend their 11-year-long assocation<\/a>. De Gea, to his credit, is reportedly willing to take the pay cut as he wants to continue staying at Old Trafford beyond this season.<\/p>\n
