In spite of a poor run of form before the competition, Gareth Southgate’s England turned that around in their first match of the World Cup. By transitioning from a 3-4-3 to a 4-2-3-1 for the match against Iran, the might of the English was able to bombard the opposition goal with chance after chance. There’s a high likelihood that Southgate implements this system again, with Gregg Berhalter preferring a relatively passive tactical structure.<\/p>\n

USA Current Run of Form<\/span><\/h3>\n

Gregg Berhalter’s USA were on slightly wobbly form prior to the World Cup opener, and the result against Wales further demonstrated this. The USMNT were only able to sneak a 1-1 draw against the Welsh with a late Gareth Bale penalty drawing the sides level. Tyler Adams<\/a> will hope to inspire the side around him to a performance like that from the first half, rather than the dour second half.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

The USA have met England eleven times in their history, with only two matches going in the Americans’ favour. This has to be something to buoy England fans, with the last result being a 3-0 victory at Wembley. The Stars and Stripes haven’t won in this fixture for 29 years.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

Although a passive system tends to cause issues for Gareth Southgate’s sides, the 4-2-3-1 could be enough to overcome the Berhalter’s boys. Starting someone more accustomed to a press, such as Brenden Aaronson, could cause problems, but likely not enough to win.<\/p>\n

England are comfortable favourites at 7\/12, with the draw next most likely at 3\/1. The USMNT is a firm underdog at 11\/2.<\/p>\n
