In the pursuit of a second-choice goalkeeper, Manchester United have targeted Asmir Begovi\u0107 at Everton, according to The Telegraph’s Mike McGrath<\/a>. Erik ten Hag is determined to find a solid replacement for Dean Henderson following his loan departure to Nottingham Forest<\/a>.<\/p>\n

Far From a Done Deal<\/strong><\/h3>\n

Manchester United<\/a> are said to be interested in Asmir Begovi\u0107 because of his ability to step in at any level, not to mention the 35-year-old’s vast experience in the Premier League.<\/p>\n

However, signing the Bosnia and Herzegovina international won’t be easy for United as Everton<\/a> boss Frank Lampard is intent on keeping him at Goodison Park.<\/p>\n

For a potential deal to be possible, the Toffees would need to sign an adequate replacement for Begovi\u0107 before his contract expires next summer.<\/p>\n

A Reliable Journeyman<\/h3>\n

Begovi\u0107 settled at Stoke City in 2010, following several loan spells in his early professional career. The goalkeeper’s five seasons at the club saw him make 160 league appearances and even score a spectacular goal.<\/p>\n

Chelsea subsequently swooped in and made Begovi\u0107 their back-up for Thibaut Courtois. Despite signing a four-year deal, Begovi\u0107 departed for Bournemouth after two seasons. He received more playing time at the Cherries, making 109 league appearances from start.<\/p>\n

Still, he was loaned out to Qaraba\u011f FK and later AC Milan during his stint with Bournemouth. The goalkeeper’s next permanent move came in 2021 when Everton signed him.<\/p>\n

Begovi\u0107 can definitely be called a journeyman, given how many different clubs he has played for. One could even make the case that he’s somewhat of a journeyman on an international level as well, since he represented Canada at youth level before switching to Bosnia and Herzegovina as a senior.<\/p>\n
