Fabrizio Romano<\/a> has given his understanding of Manchester United’s pursuit of Ivan Toney, whose goalscoring abilities have in the past been described<\/a> as “superb”. The performances of Anthony Martial in preseason so far could have cast doubt over whether a new striker is actually required, with three goals in three games, but he has proven unreliable since his impressive form at the end of the 2019\/20 season, and it is unclear whether Erik ten Hag can successfully reignite the Frenchman’s career. Martial is also a player the Red Devils would consider selling<\/a> this summer as they look to raise funds to help the new boss implement his playing style as quickly as possible with new additions.<\/p>\n

Toney would represent fantastic attacking depth for United, should they acquire him, but for \u00a345 million they will want someone who can make an impact on every game they play. While his performances last year were good, it is debatable as to whether the 26-year-old could become one of the best strikers in the league – that’s what a club the size of Manchester United will be looking for.<\/p>\n
