Pep Guardiola wants to strengthen the left-back position this summer and replace Oleksandr Zinchenko, who wants a move<\/a> to get more regular playing time elsewhere. With Joao Cancelo the only other left-back, the Citizens want more depth to that role heading into next season.<\/p>\n

Kieran Tierney is one of the options noted down on City’s list for a new left-back. Guardiola appreciates the Scottish full-back’s defensive qualities and the club are ready to take a gamble on him despite his worrying injury record in recent years – in which he’s suffered seven injuries in the last three seasons.<\/p>\n

With Arsenal keen to sign Gabriel Jesus from City, the Manchester side can even propose a possible swap involving the Brazilian striker and Tierney. The Citizens have a history of signing players from Arsenal, having roped in the likes of Samir Nasri, Emmanuel Adebayor and Kolo Toure from the Gunners in the past.<\/p>\n

Tierney was only able to make 24 appearances for Arsenal last season and struggled with some injury problems. But despite his fitness worries, he is highly rated for his hard-working nature and quality on the left-wing.<\/p>\n

Liverpool<\/a> defender Andy Robertson described him as ‘one of a kind in his position’ earlier this year. Tierney can play a variety of different roles according to needs and is reliable on the left.<\/p>\n

The 25-year-old is an aggressive left-back who isn’t shy of putting in tackles and marching up the field to help his team in the attack. But he can also play as a left centre-back in a back-three if needed, having done it quite often for the Gunners last season.<\/p>\n
