A local hero, Simpson was player-manager at Carlisle between 2003 and 2006. Speaking to <a href=\"https:\/\/www.carlisleunited.co.uk\/news\/2022\/february\/club-new-manager-takes-post\/\" target=\"_blank\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">carlisleunited.co.uk<\/a> he said: <\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">\u201cIt doesn\u2019t need me to say that Paul is hugely respected both in Carlisle and across the football world.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">\u201cHe\u2019s a Carlisle fan, he knows the club, and he knows what it means to the fans.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">\u201cHe also knows this is a difficult task, but his knowledge, experience and passion will be a huge asset to the dressing room and the club.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">\u201cWe hope everyone will get behind him and the players through what is a hugely important period.\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Simpson will take charge of first-team affairs until the end of the season.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">In recent times, Simpson managed the England U20 side. He led the likes of Lewis Cook, Dominic Calvert-Lewin and <a href=\"https:\/\/lastwordonsports.com\/football\/2022\/01\/15\/fikayo-tomori-sidelined-for-ac-milan\/\" target=\"_self\">Fikayo Tomori<\/a> to World Cup glory in 2017.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Simpson will look to pull off another miracle for the Cumbrians. The team currently lie in 22nd position in League Two, winning just six games all season.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Leyton Orient have given temporary charge to Matt Harrold following Jackett\u2019s sacking. Both teams will want to get back to winning ways as soon as possible.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Orient have failed to win a match since December 7. Their last win came when they dismantled Swindon 4-1. Before this, the O\u2019s had only lost three games in League Two this season.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">The O\u2019s form since Christmas has seen them plummet down the table.
