Just like that, in an unexpected click of the fingers, it was lights out. And so, it became the moment of the tournament when the Great Dane decided that his time was not to be defined by a sudden click of the fingers. No matter the goals scored, or tackles made, nothing was to take the applause away from walking miracle Christian Eriksen and the rest of the Denmark team. And rightly so.

Eriksen, a world class playmaker – something many seem to forget – couldn’t be defined as a miracle or comeback king, however. When Brentford came calling, there is no doubt that he picked up the phone not only relishing the chance to step foot on a football pitch once more, but to make a defining impact. The former Tottenham Hotspur man has unfinished business in the so-called beautiful game, and business that should be of interest to Brentford’s survival chances.

Christian Eriksen Can Become More Than Just a Comeback King at Brentford

Brentford Form Could Result in Relegation Scrap

In the first-half of the season, it was all aboard the Brentford hype train. And why not after wins over Arsenal and West Ham and a scintillatingly resilient 3-3 draw against Liverpool? This is a side with all of the ingredients needed to bake a perfectly exquisite mid-table finish. They have a goalscorer in Ivan Toney. Tick. They have what many would describe as an adequate leader at the back in Kristoffer Ajer. Tick. But, what they have run out of, is points.

The Bees, despite the aforementioned assets, have won just one of their last five Premier League matches in a run that includes losses to Southampton and Wolverhampton Wanderers. As a result of that worrisome form, Frank’s side now sit just seven points above the drop-zone, having played a game extra than Norwich City. What’s more, if matters couldn’t become any worse, up next is a trip to the Etihad and perhaps soon-to-be champions Manchester City.

Up against the riches of Newcastle United – who have already flexed their newfound muscles in a 3-1 win over Everton – Brentford have every chance of slipping into an unwanted relegation scrap. Considering that they’ve already lost to Norwich in the league this season, and were dismantled by Frank Lampard’s Everton in the FA Cup, too, the situation could be on course to take a turn for the worse. But that’s when Eriksen could come in.

Comeback King to Become Comeback Saviour?

When watching Brentford, it looks as though they lack one major asset: a playmaker. As good as Toney is, it seems very rare that he is handed an easy opportunity not created by the majority of his own hard work. Eriksen’s arrival should immediately solve that problem.

Of course, there’s no guarantees that the midfielder will return to anything close to his best, but, on a technical level, playmakers rarely lose their touch. It is worth noting that this is a Scudetto winning player, whose part, which went unnoticed at times in truth, was key throughout Inter Milan’s 20/21 season under Antonio Conte.

If Christian Eriksen returns anywhere close to his best, then Brentford should survive with relative ease. Eriksen, himself, returns not only a fan favourite, but an invaluable asset that should go onto redefine himself once more in the Premier League.

Main Photo
Embed from Getty Images

For those fateful 10 minutes in Copenhagen, not only was Christian Eriksen’s football career over, so too was his life.
